Ocean State Job Lot Expands with New Pottstown Location

Montgomery County will welcome its second Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL) store this fall, opening in Pottstown at 799 N. State Street in the Pottstown Plaza. The new location, occupying nearly 40,000 square feet previously held by GIANT, will be the chain's 11th store in Pennsylvania. Co-tenants at the plaza include Tractor Supply, Goodwill, Domino’s, and Applebee’s.

The new store will create various job opportunities, including leadership and associate positions. OSJL, a discount retailer founded in 1977, operates 153 stores across the Northeast and offers a wide range of products, including household goods, apparel, and seasonal items.

Montgomery County Plans August Distribution of Potassium Iodide

Montgomery County will hold another potassium iodide distribution event later this month for those living, working, or attending school within 10 miles of the Limerick Generating Station. The distribution will take place on August 23 and 24, providing residents with emergency tablets that can help protect the thyroid gland from radioactive iodine in the event of a nuclear accident.

Businesses must register online to receive the pick-up location, which is being kept confidential. Residents can pick up their tablets on Saturday, August 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Limerick Fire Company, located at 390 W. Ridge Pike in Royersford. Pre-registration is not required for residents.

Officials caution that the tablets should only be taken if instructed by health authorities, as not all nuclear incidents release radioactive iodine. Additionally, potassium iodide tablets are available year-round at the Montgomery County Office of Public Health Center in Pottstown, open Monday through Friday.

6-Year-Old's Death in Hot Room Leads to Homicide Charges for Three in Reading

Do Not Cross!

Three Reading residents have been charged with homicide after a 6-year-old girl died from severe neglect. The child was locked in a hot room for over three days, leading to her death from dehydration and heat exposure. When authorities arrived, the child was found in a soiled diaper, indicating prolonged neglect.

The accused—Jazmine A. Rodriguez, 44; Manuel A. Rodriguez Sr., 46; and Manuel A. Rodriguez Jr., 29—are charged with homicide, conspiracy, child endangerment, and other related offenses. The elder Rodriguez defendants are in custody, while Manuel Jr. remains at large. The death has been ruled a homicide following an autopsy.

Rising Star: Cavan Sullivan's Journey from Philly to Global Soccer

At just 14 years old, Cavan Sullivan has taken the sports world by storm as the youngest player to ever appear in a major professional sports league, debuting for the Philadelphia Union in July. The teen soccer prodigy has already caught the attention of notable athletes, including Phillies star Bryce Harper, who praised Sullivan's skills when they met recently.

Sullivan's rapid rise is rooted in his deep soccer heritage—his parents and brother all have strong ties to the sport. Despite his young age, Sullivan has already made history and is expected to join Premier League powerhouse Manchester City when he turns 18.

With a reported $500,000 salary and a $5 million transfer deal, Sullivan’s future is bright, but he remains grounded, focusing on his love for soccer. He’s already been named the best player at the CONCACAF Under-15 championships and continues to impress on the field.

Balancing fame and potential, Sullivan’s journey is just beginning, with big aspirations ahead. But for now, his focus remains on developing his game with the Union before eventually making the leap to Europe.

Phillies End Skid with 6-0 Victory Over Mariners, Led by Harper and Wheeler

The Philadelphia Phillies snapped a six-game losing streak with a 6-0 win over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, avoiding a series sweep at T-Mobile Park. Key performances from Bryce Harper and Zack Wheeler fueled the much-needed victory.

Wheeler dominated on the mound, allowing just two hits over eight shutout innings while striking out nine. Harper had a standout day with three hits, including his first home run since July 27, and reached 3,000 career total bases.

Despite a strong start by Mariners' All-Star Logan Gilbert, the Phillies broke through after his departure. Kyle Schwarber opened with a leadoff home run, followed by late-game homers from Bryson Stott, Harper, and Alec Bohm.

The win improved the Phillies' record to 66-45, keeping them atop the National League standings. They will face the Dodgers next in a three-game series.
