Reeser’s Landing

Travels With The Post reports that the Pottstown-based Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area has reopened the upgraded Reeser’s Landing at 1018 Gibraltar Rd. in Exeter Township (Birdsboro mailing address).

The landing now has a new concrete boat launch, a paved lot for 22 vehicles, a gravel lot for trailers and new erosion controls, plus access to the nearby Exeter Scenic Trail.

It is also the first spot in Pennsylvania to display signage for the Schuylkill River National Water Trail, a designation the river received in June, and the project was supported by DCNR Community Conservation Partnership Program funding.

More than 30 officials and partners attended the ribbon cutting, then paddled five miles down the river.

PARRC reports that the redevelopment of Brookside Park, at Hale and Virginia streets in Pottstown, is complete and open to the public.

The project added new playground equipment, a Bankshot basketball court, new swings, improved ADA accessibility, new benches and picnic tables, a rain garden, landscaping and new fencing.

Funding came from DCNR’s Community Conservation Partnership Program ($165,300), Montco 2040 Implementation Program ($135,400), the Pottstown Regional Community Foundation ($30,000) and a private donor ($10,000).

🎠 Pottstown History: The Carousel at Pottstown, PTC #9, Came Home from Euclid Beach

Ornate vintage carousel horse in warm glowing light with brass poles

The merry-go-round at 30 W. King St. is Philadelphia Toboggan Company carousel PTC #9, built in 1905, and it debuted at Euclid Beach Park in Cleveland.

Over the decades it ran in New England and later in Pine Grove, Pa., before it was dismantled and put in storage in the early 1980s.

Volunteers brought it to Pottstown and spent about 16 years on the effort. Master carver Ed Roth recreated many of the animals by hand, and local artists spent more than 250 hours finishing each figure.

The restored 1905 PTC carousel opened to the public in December 2016, and it still spins on weekends downtown.
