Pottstown History:

Vice Adm. Frank Dechant Wagner

The Mercury reports that Frank Dechant Wagner was born in Lower Pottsgrove on Aug. 22, 1893, the son of Tri-County Area Bank president Jonas Wagner, and that he entered the U.S. Naval Academy right after graduating from Pottstown High School in 1911. Published Navy records say he commanded Patrol Wing 10 in the Philippines as the Pacific war opened, later led Aircraft, Seventh Fleet, and retired in 1950, when he was advanced to vice admiral. The Mercury says he was killed in an Alabama automobile accident in January 1966, his ashes were scattered at sea, and his name on the family monument at Edgewood is the hometown link.
