Former astronaut talks space and teaching
at Pottstown Challenger Center
The Mercury reports that former NASA educator-astronaut Dorothy Metcalf-Lindenburger spoke Friday, Sept. 18, at the first Space Exploration Educators Conference Summit held outside Texas, at the Challenger Learning Center on Montgomery County Community College's Pottstown campus. Metcalf-Lindenburger, who flew Discovery to the International Space Station and is chair-elect of the Challenger Center board, was joined by Space Center Houston's Daniel Newmyer on the Artemis program. MCCC President Victoria L. Bastecki-Perez noted the Pottstown center has served about 16,000 students since it opened in 2022.

Limerick marks 300 years
Saturday at Waltz Golf Farm
According to The Mercury, Limerick Township will celebrate its tricentennial Saturday, Sept. 26, from 3 to 10 p.m., rain or shine, at Waltz Golf Farm, 303 W. Ridge Pike. The free community day includes a free mini-golf window, historical society demonstrations, kids entertainment, more than a dozen food trucks, the Philadelphia and District Pipe Band, rock band Stealing Savanah, Hares Hill specialty beers, and fireworks. Township Manager Dan Kerr said planners hope for as many as 5,000 people; a map and schedule are on the township site.

Comedian Jeff Dye Returns to
SoulJoel’s for Two Shows Thursday
Comedian Jeff Dye will return to SoulJoel’s at SunnyBrook in Pottstown for two performances on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., with doors opening 30 minutes before each performance. General admission tickets are $35, while preferred seating in the 50 seats closest to the stage is $45. A post-show meet-and-greet can be added for $25.
Dye has appeared on Gutfeld!, The Joe Rogan Experience, NBC’s Better Late Than Never, MTV’s Money From Strangers and The Tonight Show.
Food will be available at Gatsby’s Pub before and after the shows, with drinks available throughout the evening.

Pottstown History:
Sunnybrook Ballroom
Most neighbors know Sunnybrook as the place for proms and weddings. Fewer know Ray Hartenstine Sr. put up the Lower Pottsgrove dance pavilion in about eight weeks in spring 1931, opening for Memorial Day on the old Sunnybrook Farm pool and picnic grounds. Life magazine later featured those Saturday nights in a 1937 "Life Goes to a Party" spread. In February 1942 Glenn Miller packed over 7,300 dancers, the house record, before the hall closed "for the duration" that July and reopened Sept. 8, 1945. The landmark joined the National Register of Historic Places on Aug. 11, 2005.
