Pottstown History:

Borough incorporation Feb. 6, 1815

On Feb. 6, 1815, Pennsylvania Gov. Simon Snyder signed the bill that made Pottstown an incorporated borough, giving legal standing to a town John Potts had laid out decades earlier as Pottsgrove. High Street was planned a grand 100 feet wide along the Great Road, and on April 5, 1815, merchant Robert McClintock was elected the first burgess. The borough’s own history notes Pottstown was the second borough in Montgomery County after Norristown. A quiet civic birthday most neighbors walk past every day on High Street.
