Beacon of Hope shelter construction
Heavy equipment expected at
West High & Glasgow
Construction is set to begin on the Pottstown Beacon of Hope shelter at West High and Glasgow streets. CEO Nathan Brockman said heavy equipment should be on site this week, with a hoped-for timeline of about seven months for the 45-room prefabricated bridge-housing facility, plus space for up to 16 extra guests in severe weather.
Supporters can mark Thursday, Oct. 8, for Beacon of Hope’s Evening of Impact fundraiser at Sunnybrook, 50 Sunnybrook Road, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. At the Sept. 9 borough council work session, Chelsea Hoff shared how Opportunity House and county partners helped her move from addiction and homelessness into stable housing and regain custody of her son.
Edgewood Cemetery Traveling Circus tours
Walk to Remember set for Saturday, Oct. 24
Travels with the Post (Sept. 15, 2026) says Historic Edgewood Cemetery’s fifth Walk to Remember, “The Traveling Circus,” is set for Saturday, Oct. 24, at 989 E. High St., with small-group tours stepping off at 1, 2, and 3 p.m. ($20 adults / $10 students; rain date Oct. 25).
Costumed storytellers will highlight Depression-era ties between Pottstown, Edgewood, and the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. First comes the public fall clean-up on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain date Oct. 18), with tools and refreshments for volunteers.

Montco Jazz Fest at Rivet
Free WCU Criterions show
Wednesday, Sept. 16th
Travels with the Post (Sept. 14, 2026) reports the fifth annual Montco Jazz Fest runs Tuesday through Sunday, Sept. 15-20, with several free shows around the county. For Pottstown neighbors, the West Chester University Criterions Jazz Ensemble plays free at Rivet: Canteen & Assembly, 238 E. High St., on Wednesday, Sept. 16, starting about 6:30 p.m. (doors 5:30), celebrating 100 years of the Criterions.
The festival also marks milestone birthdays for Miles Davis and John Coltrane with performances from Lansdale to Ambler.

Pottstown History:
Maj. Gen. Arthur St. Clair on High Street
Before the U.S. Constitution took shape, Maj. Gen. Arthur St. Clair made his home on High Street. From 1782 to 1787 he lived at the southeast corner of High and Hanover, in a house originally built by John Potts Jr.
In 1787 he served as President of the Continental Congress, the national legislature of the Confederation era. He had earlier crossed the Delaware with Washington, and a Mahanatawny Chapter DAR marker at 200 E. High St. was dedicated Oct. 11, 2025, adding to an older 1909 DAR tablet remembered on the site.
