Meme of the Day

Heritage Field WWII trainer

landing incident Wed Sep 9th

A historic North American AT-6D Harvard III training plane flipped upside down while landing at Heritage Field (Pottstown Limerick Airport) Wednesday evening around 7:18-7:20 p.m.

The sole pilot was injured and extricated by first responders. The cause is under investigation. Injury details still differ across early writeups, so we are keeping the wording cautious until sources agree.

Boyertown's 19th annual Oktoberfest returns Friday, Sept. 11, 5-10 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 12, 1-10 p.m. in the town-center parking lot at 57 Boyer St.

Friday features the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile; Saturday brings German dancers and Stephanie Grace. Boyertown sits on the Scoop geography edge, and this is distinct from same-day Pottstown Fete en Blanc and ACS Food Truck Festival (those stay events-only shorts).

SoulJoel's Comedy Fundraiser to

Benefit Pennhurst Legacy Project

SoulJoel's at SunnyBrook will host a Comedy Fundraiser benefiting the Pennhurst Legacy Project on Thursday, Sept. 10, featuring comedian and actor Adam Ferrara.

The event will raise money for the Pennhurst Legacy Project, a group of historians and disability advocates working to preserve and interpret the history of the former Pennhurst State School and Hospital. Organizers say 50% of ticket sales will be donated to the nonprofit, while 10% of food purchases at Gatsby's Pub between 4 and 7 p.m. will also support the organization.

The show begins at 7 p.m. at SoulJoel's, located at 50 SunnyBrook Road, Pottstown. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. Guests can enjoy free parking, a full bar, and food available before and after the performance.

General admission tickets are $20, while preferred seating is $30. Tickets must be purchased directly through SoulJoel's, and all sales are final.

Ferrara is known for his stand-up comedy as well as television and film roles, including appearances on Rescue Me, Nurse Jackie, Top Gear US, The King of Queens, Law & Order, and Why Women Kill. He is also a regular touring comedian and podcast host.

Pottstown History:

Chadwick factory supercharger

Long before muscle-car posters, Pottstown had its own performance shop. Lee Sherman Chadwick's Chadwick Engineering Works built high-quality sports cars here in the early 1900s. The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum puts the business at 1904-1916 and says the cars hailed from Pottstown.

A 1910 sales brochure brags that the standard Chadwick Roadster hit 107 mph in Vanderbilt Cup practice, and for an extra $350 buyers could order a factory supercharger, making the Chadwick, Simeone writes, "the first American car that we have discovered with such a feature." The Pottstown Historical Society still keeps a Chadwick Touring Car note in its collection (made in Pottstown 1905-1916 on their card). Next time someone says sports cars were always Detroit's story, remind them a Schuylkill-side works was already selling boost before many neighbors owned a car at all.
