Tthe Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency is hosting two free hour-long virtual seminars ahead of the anticipated Oct. 1 FAFSA release. Advance online registration is required.
Monday, Sept. 14, 6-7 p.m. ET covers "Searching for Scholarships." Monday, Sept. 28, 6-7 p.m. ET is "Get Ready to File the FAFSA" for the 2027-28 cycle. Statewide / Harrisburg frame, shared as a practical neighbor tip.

PARRC Putts for Parks
Sat Oct 3 at Manatawny Green
PARRC lists the 3rd Annual Putts for Parks miniature golf tournament for Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Manatawny Green Miniature Golf, 71 W. King St. Registration is $15 per person for a twosome or foursome.
Expect refreshments and prizes for Best Female Golfer, Best Male Golfer, Best Foursome, and Hole-in-One. Day-of registration runs 9:30-10:30 a.m.; rain date is Oct. 4. Soft parks fundraiser from PARRC first-party pages.

Pottstown History:
Dr. Alice Keim Sheppard
Long before "women in medicine" was a campaign slogan, Alice Keim Sheppard was delivering babies on King Street and at Pottstown Hospital. Born March 9, 1898, at 722 King St., she earned a Mount Holyoke B.A. in 1919, entered Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1922, and returned about 1928 as Pottstown's first woman doctor.
She practiced family medicine and obstetrics for roughly 40 years, delivered 2,010 babies, taught nursing students, and served as chief of obstetrics. On Dec. 20, 1949, Look magazine devoted a three-page photo essay to her as representative of the nation's women physicians, calling her "the most useful woman in town" (she privately grumbled that the fuss was "driving me slowly mad").
