Foundation for Pottstown Education, 230 Beech St., welcomed three new board directors and hired a new Development and Donor Stewardship Manager, announced Friday Sept. 4, 2026, by Board President Leticia Santiago and Executive Director Joe Rusiewicz.
The three new directors, for three-year terms that began July 1, are Sally (Sara) Bechtel, Marcus Dixon, and Kelli Wolfel. Emily Overdorf, a 2023 Pottstown High School alumna, joins as Development and Donor Stewardship Manager.
PCA Community Clean-Up

The TLDR: Pottstown Community Action is calling for volunteers for a litter clean-up along North Franklin Street and nearby areas on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, 10 a.m. to noon.

The TLDR: A HappeningNext organizer listing (host Anthony Nowack) says Danielle Kangas and Anthony Nowack will present a dedicated Pottstown arts-district plan at Council Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, 7-8 p.m. at Borough Hall, 100 E High St.
Afterward, organizers plan to reconvene at Artillery Brewing for tours through the proposed district. Soft civic call from an organizer listing, not a borough agenda packet.

first 2-0 since 2022
The TLDR: Pottsgrove Falcons beat Sun Valley 49-15 Friday night for the team's first 2-0 start since 2022.
QB Ryan Lucci had 103 rushing yards and 101 passing, including a 48-yard touchdown pass to Montee Johnson.
Pottstown History:
Mrs. Smith was a real Pottstown widow
Most neighbors grew up seeing Mrs. Smith's pies in the freezer aisle and assumed the name was pure branding. It wasn't. Amanda W. Smith, a South Street widow, baked deep-dish fruit and Pennsylvania Dutch pies that her youngest son, Robert P. Smith, began selling at a Pottstown YMCA lunch counter around 1919, then door-to-door and to local grocers.
By 1923 a Mrs. Smith's pie store was open; the company later incorporated, built factories along the Industrial Highway, and by 1956 was shipping frozen pies nationwide. Even after 60 Minutes essayist Andy Rooney argued Mrs. Smith never existed, Robert filmed a rebuttal commercial at The Hill School, and Amanda's headstone at Highland Memorial Park still anchors the story to a real Pottstown kitchen.
