The Pottstown Mercury reports Schuylkill River Greenways received two commitments totaling $650,000 toward a permanent funding source for Schuylkill River Trail repairs and improvements.

The Switchpoint Foundation pledged $500,000, and The Wyomissing Foundation added a $150,000 Centennial Grant. Officials say the gifts take the Stewardship Fund Campaign to $3.5 million toward a $5 million goal. Switchpoint seeks lasting positive change in the greater Pottstown region, and Greenways owns or maintains nearly 40 miles of trail in Berks and Schuylkill counties.

Travels with the Post reports the last of five 2026 Pottstown Nights car shows sponsored by Red Horse Motoring Club is Saturday, Sept. 5.

Selected downtown streets close at 1 p.m. for set-up. The free show runs 3-9 p.m. and is open to cars, trucks, and motorcycles with no entry fees. Vehicles enter at Queen and South Hanover streets, with food trucks, vendors, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities.

Travels with the Post reports Fête en Blanc returns Friday, Sept. 11, 6-9 p.m., at Smith Family Plaza, 138 E. High St.

About 700 guests are expected for the dress-all-in-white outdoor dinner hosted by Pottstown Area Economic Development. Eleven percent of dinner proceeds support borough fire companies. Tickets are required; guests bring their own place settings and food, and there is no rain date.

Travels with the Post reports Pottstown Borough will receive $632,400 from PennDOT's Green Light-Go program, announced Tuesday, Aug. 4.

The grant will replace or install accessible pedestrian signals throughout the borough and modernize signals at Route 100 and King Street and Route 100 and Shoemaker Road. It is part of about $38 million going to 86 municipalities, with at least a 20% local match required

Most neighbors know Pottstown made iron and steel. Fewer know that when San Francisco raised the Golden Gate Bridge in the 1930s, a big share of that steel was shaped right here.

McClintic-Marshall, a Bethlehem Steel subsidiary, won the about $10.5 million steel superstructure contract. The Pottstown Historical Society puts Pottstown's share at 41,800 of about 100,000 tons, slightly less than half. Workers fabricated girders and tower pieces, then shipped them by rail to Philadelphia and by ship through the Panama Canal to California. The bridge opened to pedestrians on May 27, 1937.
