Pottstown's GoFourth organizers
will dissolve after a 10-year run
The Pottstown Mercury reports that GoFourth organizers are dissolving the volunteer group after a 10-year run.
Co-chairs Amy Wolf and Amy Francis said they wanted to get through the country's 250th, and then stop. The Pottstown Rotary Club's July 4th Parade is a separate event and continues; the festival and fireworks will not, unless someone else picks them up.
Library elevator about half funded;
L'oe Show will raise money Sept. 3-6
The Pottstown Mercury reports the Pottstown Regional Public Library has raised $67,000 of a $125,000 goal to replace the elevator that stopped working May 30.
The second floor is mostly closed, and families with strollers have been coming less often. L'oe Show, Sept. 3 through 6, chose the library as this year's fundraising partner, including custom license plates on Sunday, Sept. 6, with 100 percent of plate proceeds going to the library.
Steel River Playhouse gets a $5,000 grant
to study High Street theatre upgrades
Patch AM reports the Montgomery County Industrial Development Authority awarded Steel River Playhouse a $5,000 Community Benefit Grant.
The money will pay for a professional study of capital upgrades at the downtown High Street theatre.
Upper Pottsgrove votes 4-1
to buy three properties for $2.9 million
The Pottstown Mercury reports Upper Pottsgrove commissioners voted 4-1 on Aug. 17 to buy three properties for $2.9 million for a new municipal complex. Commissioner Dave Waldt cast the no vote.
Chairman Al Leach said the Farmington Avenue parcel would house administration, police, and fire, and the Steinmetz Road parcel would house public works.
