New trail connector near Pottstown
opens a continuous 70-mile ride
from Philly to Reading

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports a new 0.9-mile connector on the Schuylkill River Trail is open in Lower Pottsgrove Township.
The segment opened Aug. 19 and runs between Route 422 and Industrial Highway, giving cyclists a continuous 70-mile path from Philly to Reading.

Edgewood's 57-year-old rooftop chiller dies as school starts;
replacement could cost near $2 million

The Pottstown Mercury reports the 57-year-old rooftop chiller at the Edgewood building has failed as school starts.
Superintendent Stephen Rodriguez told the board a replacement is closer to $2 million and not likely until spring or summer of 2027.

Two-alarm fire damages Jean's Lingerie on North Hanover Street;
no injuries reported

WFMZ reports a two-alarm fire damaged Jean's Lingerie on North Hanover Street in Pottstown on Thursday. No one was hurt.
Officials believe a light fixture malfunction sparked a fire that spread to the basement ceiling.

is Saturday at Althouse Arboretum

Patch reports the third annual Pennsylvania Fig Festival is Saturday at Althouse Arboretum, 1794 Gilbertsville Rd in Upper Pottsgrove, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Live fig trees will be for sale, plus other vendors.
