Pottstown Teen Charged

in Norristown Triple Shooting

An 18-year-old Pottstown resident has been charged in connection with a triple shooting that occurred earlier this month in Norristown, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

Rashaad Oliver, 18, faces three counts of attempted murder and three counts of aggravated assault stemming from the Aug. 1 shooting on the 100 block of East Chestnut Street.

Authorities allege the incident began when Oliver and another man, Zion Kennedy of Norristown, became involved in a physical altercation with another individual outside a residence. Investigators say surveillance video showed Oliver being struck during the fight before allegedly producing a handgun and firing multiple shots.

According to prosecutors, three people were injured during the shooting: a 17-year-old girl who was struck in the thigh, a 19-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, and a 25-year-old man who was also shot in the leg. All three victims were transported to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators said Oliver and Kennedy fled the area and were later arrested on unrelated charges in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Aug. 4 by the New Jersey State Police.

Oliver was arraigned and bail was set at $1 million. Unable to post bail, he remains in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26.
