Pottstown Hospital Announces Second Round of Layoffs as Service Changes Planned
Pottstown Hospital – Tower Health has announced another round of workforce reductions, affecting approximately 160 employees, marking the hospital's second major layoff since November.
According to a statement provided by Tower Health to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the staffing changes are part of a broader effort to strengthen the hospital's long-term sustainability while preserving access to essential healthcare services. The health system also announced plans to convert some underused general medical beds into inpatient behavioral health beds to better address community needs.
Tower Health indicated that additional information about the transition and future plans for the hospital will be released as it becomes available.
State Rep. Joe Ciresi shared news of the layoffs on social media, noting that many residents have expressed concern and frustration following the announcement.

Pottstown Middle School Opens Registration for POWER After School Program

Registration is now open for the POWER After School Program at Pottstown Middle School, offering students a variety of free activities and academic enrichment opportunities during the 2026-27 school year.
The program will run Monday through Thursday from Sept. 8, 2026, through April 27, 2027, with sessions held from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Pottstown Middle School.
Open to all Pottstown Middle School students, the program includes free after-school programming, snacks, transportation, and enrichment activities. Participants can take part in theater arts, STEM activities, sports, games, and arts and crafts.
The POWER After School Program is funded in full or in part through a federal U.S. Department of Education grant administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Reading Pagoda Foundation Seeking Volunteers for Future Projects

The Reading Pagoda Foundation is looking to build a list of volunteers interested in assisting with future projects at and around the historic Reading Pagoda.
Individuals who would like to donate their time can sign up through the foundation's online Google Form to be contacted as volunteer opportunities become available. Projects may include work inside and around the Pagoda.
Because some volunteer activities may take place within the building, participants should be able to climb stairs.

The Pottstown Family Center will be among the community organizations participating in the final Pottstown Play Streets event of the summer on Thursday, July 30, at Spruce Street Park.
The free event, held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., is part of the award-winning Play Streets program, which transforms neighborhood parks and streets into safe, active spaces where children and families can play, meet neighbors, and connect with local organizations.
Presented by Pottstown Parks & Recreation, the Pottstown Regional Community Foundation, and the Pottstown Play Streets Coalition, the summer series offers games, activities, community resources, and opportunities for families to enjoy time outdoors together.
Aug. 6 has been designated as a rain date if needed.
