MCCC to Host Inaugural Space Exploration Educators Conference Summit

Montgomery County Community College's Challenger Learning Center in Pottstown will serve as the host site for the inaugural Space Exploration Educators Conference (SEEC) Summit this fall.

The event, presented by Space Center Houston and Challenger Center, will take place Sept. 18-19 and is designed to provide educators with immersive professional development opportunities focused on science, technology, engineering, and space exploration.

Participants will hear from keynote speakers, including educator astronaut Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger, and take part in collaborative learning sessions with fellow educators. The summit will also feature a Challenger Center simulated space mission experience, allowing attendees to engage in hands-on activities modeled after real-world space exploration challenges.

Organizers say the conference aims to inspire educators, foster professional connections, and provide innovative tools and strategies that can be brought back to classrooms.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to earn up to six hours of continuing education credit.

Local Police Departments to Host

One-Day Cop Camp for Youth

Upper Pottsgrove Township Police Department, in partnership with the West Pottsgrove Township Police Department and the Lower Pottsgrove Police Officer's Association, is inviting local youth to participate in a one-day Cop Camp this summer.

The program is designed for children ages 9 to 13 who are interested in learning more about law enforcement. Participants will spend the day exploring various aspects of police work through interactive activities, demonstrations, and hands-on experiences led by local officers.

Organizers say the camp will provide a fun and educational opportunity for young people to build positive relationships with law enforcement while gaining insight into the responsibilities and daily duties of police officers.

Applications are currently being accepted, with a deadline of August 1.

Pottstown Parks & Recreation Offering Discount Tickets to Popular Attractions

With summer travel season in full swing, the Borough of Pottstown Parks and Recreation Department is helping residents save on admission to a variety of regional amusement parks, water parks, zoos, and family attractions.

Through its membership in the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society, the department offers discounted tickets to several destinations throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and beyond. Some tickets are available for purchase in person at the Parks and Recreation office, while others can be purchased over the phone and delivered electronically.

Officials say demand has been strong as families plan vacations, day trips, and summer outings.

In addition to the attractions listed below, residents can access discounts on destinations including Dorney Park, Cedar Point, Kings Dominion, Disney World, Universal Studios, movie tickets, and more through the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society's member deals program.

Pottstown Regional Public Library to Launch Piano Lending Library Program

The Pottstown Regional Public Library is inviting community members to celebrate the launch of a new Piano Lending Library Program during a special kickoff event later this month.

The program, presented in partnership with Muse Piano Academy, aims to expand access to music education by providing opportunities for individuals to engage with and learn piano through a unique lending library initiative.

The kickoff celebration will be led by Mrs. Raphaelita and will introduce attendees to the program while highlighting the benefits of music education and piano instruction. The event will take place on the library's main floor and is open to the public.

Library officials encourage interested families, aspiring musicians, and community members to attend and learn more about how the Piano Lending Library Program will operate.
