Upper Pottsgrove Man Accused of Stealing $100,000 From Disabled Teen

A wooden gavel.

A Montgomery County man is facing criminal charges after allegedly stealing more than $100,000 in life insurance benefits intended for his disabled teenage stepson, according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

Authorities announced that Christopher O. Johnson, 38, of Upper Pottsgrove Township, has been charged with financial exploitation of a care-dependent person and related offenses.

Investigators say the victim, now 19, has lifelong cognitive and neurodevelopmental disabilities and has depended on caregivers throughout his life. Following the death of his mother from a stroke in 2019, the teen became the beneficiary of life insurance payments intended for his care and support.

According to prosecutors, Johnson allegedly diverted those payments for his own personal use over a three-month period, ultimately taking more than $100,000 that should have gone to the teen.

The case was investigated by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office and will proceed through the court system.
