Pottstown Backs Major

Fire Company Merger

The Borough of Pottstown is throwing its weight behind a major restructuring of how the townโ€™s fire services are run, formally endorsing a collaborative initiative developed by Goodwill Fire Company and Phillies Fire Company to centralize the employment and administration of paid firefighters.

Under the proposed plan, the two long-standing volunteer companies would streamline operations by consolidating staffing under one administrative umbrella โ€” a shift officials say is designed to strengthen emergency response, improve consistency, and put the boroughโ€™s fire service on more stable footing for the years ahead.

Borough leaders described the move as a forward-thinking partnership between Pottstown and its fire companies, calling it a model for how local services can evolve without losing their community identity.

Borough Secures $62,250 Fine

in Landmark Ordinance Case

After three days of trial in Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, the Borough of Pottstown secured a $62,250 court-ordered fine against a property owner for repeated rental ordinance violations โ€” one of the largest enforcement penalties in the boroughโ€™s history.

The court found the owner guilty of three repeated violations of the boroughโ€™s rental ordinance and determined that despite ample notice and opportunity to fix the issues, the property remained out of compliance for at least 249 days. The judge imposed $250 per day for each day the violations went unaddressed.

Borough Manager Justin Keller said the verdict signals that prolonged or habitual noncompliance will be met with serious financial consequences, calling it a message to property owners that "excessive noncompliance will not be tolerated." Officials credited the boroughโ€™s Department of Licensing & Inspections and the solicitorโ€™s office for advancing the case.
