Weight Gain Linked to Habit Amid Sleep Apnea & Ozempic Boom

Sleep specialists say people with obstructive sleep apnea often face another hidden challenge: stubborn weight gain.

Poor sleep disrupts leptin and ghrelin — the hormones that control hunger and fullness — making cravings stronger and weight harder to manage.

That connection may help explain why treatments like semaglutide are gaining attention for supporting meaningful weight loss.

Read the report on how sleep disruption may influence weight and metabolism.

Pottstown Hospital Cited

for Early ICU Closure

Pottstown Hospital has been cited by the Pennsylvania Department of Health after closing its intensive care unit (ICU) earlier than permitted under state regulations.

State law requires at least 60 days’ notice before discontinuing hospital services. However, while Tower Health had announced the ICU would close on January 6, 2026, the unit was shut down on December 24, 2025, approximately 13 days ahead of schedule.

Hospital officials stated the early closure was due to staffing shortages, noting there were not enough nurses available to safely operate the unit. Prior to closing, the ICU had already been reduced to a limited number of patients, who were transferred to other facilities days before the shutdown.

The violation was documented in a state inspection report released in March 2026, following ongoing community concern over recent service reductions. In addition to the ICU closure, Tower Health had previously announced the shutdown of other services, including the endoscopy center and a cancer treatment location.

Despite the changes, the hospital remains open, with officials stating that many services have been shifted to other Tower Health facilities as part of broader financial restructuring efforts.

Red Cross Blood Drive Offers

Free T-Shirt Incentive

The American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania is encouraging residents to give back by donating blood during a special campaign running from March 30 through April 12.

In partnership with Life is Good, donors who participate during this period will receive a limited-edition T-shirt as a thank-you gift, while supplies last.

Organizers emphasize that blood donations play a critical role in saving lives and supporting patients in need, urging community members to schedule an appointment and take part in the effort.
