Man Gets Jail Time for Illegal Firearm
After Borough Shooting
A Pottstown man has been sentenced to jail following a shooting investigation that revealed he was carrying a firearm without a license.
Donald Lamont Johnson, 30, of Farmington Avenue, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 10 to 23 months in jail after pleading guilty to the firearms charge related to a January 2025 incident. He is eligible for a work-release program, according to the court.
Police responded to reports of gunfire around 11:55 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2025, in the 300 block of Walnut Street, with alerts from a gunshot detection system and multiple 911 calls confirming shots had been fired. Officers located ballistic evidence at the scene.
Two individuals, including Johnson, later arrived at Pottstown Hospital with gunshot wounds and were transferred for further treatment.
An investigation, including surveillance footage, showed a physical altercation in the street prior to the shooting. Authorities said Johnson was seen retrieving a firearm and firing multiple shots before leaving the area.
Ballistics indicated that shots struck both a parked vehicle and an occupied residence, though details on how the individuals were wounded were not fully explained in court records.
Johnson initially denied possessing or firing a weapon, but investigators determined he did not have a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm. Additional charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Pottstown Effort Aims to Give
Kids Summer Camp Experience

The Salvation Army of Pottstown is encouraging community support to help send local children to Camp Ladore, a summer camp designed for youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend.
Located in northeastern Pennsylvania, Camp Ladore is a 1,200-acre facility that offers overnight, recreational and educational programs for children ages 7 to 13.
Organizers say many families facing financial challenges are unable to afford summer camp experiences, and community contributions can help make those opportunities possible for children in the Pottstown area.
Those interested in supporting the effort can contact the Salvation Army to learn how to sponsor or assist a child in attending camp this summer.
Trellis for Tomorrow Opens Applications
for Summer Programs

Trellis for Tomorrow is encouraging local youth and young adults to apply for its upcoming summer programs, with opportunities focused on job skills, environmental education and community impact.
The organization’s SEED Skills Crew program will run from June through August, offering participants hands-on experience in organic gardening while building workplace readiness skills and contributing to community projects.
For older participants, the GROW Careers program provides paid work experiences for individuals ages 18 to 26, connecting them with nonprofits and businesses involved in the local food system. Positions range from 60 to 160 hours.
Applications for both programs are due by May 8, and interested participants can apply online at: https://trellis4tomorrow.org/youth-programs/
Pottstown Community Arts
Prepares for Easter Fair
The Pottstown Community Arts organization is preparing for its upcoming Easter Fair, set to take place in just over a week, offering a wide range of activities for families and children of all ages.
The event will feature age-specific egg hunts, including a storytime and egg hunt for children ages 0–2, as well as a separate hunt for children ages 3–7. Older children can enjoy games and craft stations, while families can explore a craft fair for Easter-themed gifts.
Additional attractions include opportunities to interact with a pony, take photos with Nugget, the Pottstown FARM’s chick mascot, and enjoy face painting and a puppet museum. Food, sweet treats and raffle baskets will also be available.
Organizers say the event is designed to offer something for everyone while bringing the community together for a festive Easter celebration.
