Turner’s Walk-Off Lifts Phillies Past

Braves in Extra-Inning Thriller

After a game of sterling defense and missed opportunities, Turner stepped to the plate in the 10th inning with the bases loaded and two outs. Facing an 0-2 count, the shortstop drove a poorly located fastball into right field, bringing home Alec Bohm and Nick Castellanos for a walk-off, two-run single that sealed a 3-2 win. The hit not only redeemed Turner for an earlier strikeout with runners in scoring position but also ensured the Phillies did not squander a standout performance from starter Cristopher SƔnchez.

SĆ”nchez, who was coming off a difficult outing against the Mets, responded with poise, allowing just one run over seven innings while striking out eight and walking none — a first in his last seven starts. His efforts kept the Phillies level through much of the game, aided by a series of sharp defensive plays, many initiated by Turner himself. Turner turned or contributed to three double plays, including a jump throw in the third and a critical 6-3 twin killing to escape a jam in the fourth.

The Braves briefly took the lead in the top of the 10th, capitalizing on the automatic runner rule against reliever Matt Strahm. But the Phillies, after loading the bases with two outs in their half, found themselves once again looking to Turner, who responded with the game-winning swing.

Offensively, the Phillies had been quiet through the early innings. Their only run in regulation came courtesy of Weston Wilson’s solo home run in the third. Chris Sale, making his first start for Atlanta since mid-June, largely stifled the lineup over six innings. The Braves’ defense matched the Phillies early, including a sharp 3-2 double play in the sixth that cut down Turner at the plate.

The win allowed Philadelphia to stretch its NL East lead back to six games following a Mets loss to Miami, restoring some breathing room after a sweep at the hands of New York earlier in the week.

UNION Clinch Playoff Birth

With 1-0 Dubs in Cincinnati

Bruno Damiani’s header sealed a 1-0 victory for the Philadelphia Union over FC Cincinnati, clinching a playoff berth. A resilient defensive effort, highlighted by Andrew Rick’s strong showing in goal and 30 minutes played with 10 men, earned the Union their 11th shutout of the season.
