FTC Takes on LA Fitness Over

Cumbersome Cancellation Process

The FTC is suing Fitness International (operator of LA Fitness and affiliated gym brands), alleging that the company’s membership cancellation requirements are excessively burdensome, forcing members to navigate confusing online forms or visit clubs in person. The agency seeks a court order to stop these practices and compensate affected consumers. Fitness International disputes the allegations, arguing its online cancellation option pre-dates any regulation and that existing rules don’t apply to health clubs. This lawsuit is part of the FTC's ongoing efforts to address difficult cancellation processes across subscription services.

Convenience Store Rivalry Heats Up

as Sheetz Begins Limerick Buildout

Sheetz, the iconic Pennsylvania‑based convenience store and fueling chain, has officially commenced construction on its first location in the greater Philadelphia area. Nestled in Limerick Township in Montgomery County, the new facility marks a symbolic move into what has traditionally been Wawa territory, amplifying the well‑known friendly rivalry between the two brands.

The Limerick Township Board of Supervisors granted final approval for the project earlier this summer. Construction began in earnest on August 5, and the site’s progress is now clearly visible from the road.

This development not only signifies Sheetz’s physical expansion into eastern Pennsylvania but also underscores the strategic and cultural significance of bringing its presence closer to Wawa’s suburban stronghold.
