Fundraiser for Historic Pipe Organ "Ursula" Set at SunnyBrook Ballroom

Pottstown's historic SunnyBrook Ballroom will host a special fundraising event on Thursday, August 22nd, dedicated to "Ursula," a 95-year-old pipe organ that has long been a staple of the venue. Built in 1928 for a one-room movie theater in Lansdale, Ursula provided the soundtrack for silent films and now requires significant maintenance to preserve its legacy.

The event, organized by SoulJoel’s, will feature a live performance by Ralph Brown, who will showcase the rich sounds of Ursula from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The ballroom, known as the largest on the East Coast, offers a full bar, and attendees can enjoy food from Gatsby's Pub, which will deliver directly to tables.

Tickets are available for $5 in advance or $10 at the door, with all proceeds going directly toward the restoration and upkeep of the beloved organ. Doors open at 6:00 PM, and the event promises an evening of nostalgia and community spirit.

Pottstown’s SoulJoel’s is set to deliver an evening of laughter with a clean comedy show featuring Jason Salmon on Saturday, August 24th. Known for his unique blend of humor and down-to-earth style, Salmon has made a name for himself with appearances in popular shows like "Orange is the New Black," "Wu-Tang: An American Saga," and "30 Rock." He also lent his voice to the hit video game "Red Dead Redemption 2."

The event will take place inside SoulJoel’s at 50 Sunnybrook Road, with doors opening at 6:00 PM and the show kicking off at 7:00 PM. General admission tickets are priced at $20, while VIP tickets are available for $30. Attendees can enjoy food from Gatsby’s Pub before or after the show, and drinks will be available throughout the evening.

Jason Salmon, a Texas native now based in New York City, has performed all over the world, including tours for U.S. troops in Europe and Afghanistan. His standup album "Force of Nurture" and his 2019 Drybar special have garnered widespread acclaim, with his comedy often described as offering "the best advice from the dumbest guy you know."

Pottstown Felon Sentenced to 17 Years

for Illegal Firearm Possession

James Alif Brooks, a 42-year-old convicted felon from Pottstown, has been sentenced to 8½ to 17 years in prison for illegally possessing a firearm. The incident occurred during a routine traffic stop on Route 422 in Limerick Township in November 2022, where police found a loaded handgun under Brooks' seat.

Brooks, who has a history of violent crimes, including drug convictions and aggravated assault, was legally prohibited from possessing firearms. Despite his defense arguing for a lighter sentence, the court emphasized the danger Brooks poses to the community, resulting in the lengthy prison term.

Assistant District Attorney Robert Joseph Waeltz Jr. highlighted Brooks' ongoing violent tendencies, arguing that his liberty poses a significant risk. The defense countered that the firearm was not used in a violent crime, but the judge upheld the stricter sentence.

Marsh's 8th-Inning Sacrifice Fly Propels Phillies to 3-2 Win Over Braves

Brandon Marsh's clutch pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the eighth inning lifted the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night in Atlanta. The victory extended the Phillies' lead in the National League East to seven games over the Braves, with five games left between the two teams in the regular season.

Weston Wilson set up the go-ahead run with a leadoff double in the eighth. After a sacrifice by Bryson Stott moved him to third, Marsh’s fly ball to center field brought Wilson home for the decisive run. Earlier in the game, Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner each drove in runs to tie the game at 2-2.

Diego Rossi led the Columbus Crew to a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union in the Leagues Cup semifinal, securing their spot in the final. Rossi scored twice, with goals in the 12th and 43rd minutes, while Cucho Hernández added a third goal in the 53rd minute. The Crew will now host the Leagues Cup final on Sunday against Los Angeles FC. Rossi's standout performance has been crucial in Columbus' successful tournament run.

The Union will host the Colorado Rapids for 3rd Place in Leagues Cup this coming Sunday.
