Montgomery County Budget Update Shows Stable Revenue, Rising Costs
Montgomery County commissioners received a six-month update on the 2024 budget, showing stable trends but noting rising costs in employee healthcare and insurance. The county has collected 63.3% of the general fund budget and spent 47.4%, aligning with expectations. Emerging revenue trends include higher gaming revenue but lower departmental earnings, partly due to a housing market slowdown. The commissioners also discussed economic revitalization efforts in Norristown and approved several contracts for infrastructure improvements and emergency services upgrades.
New Popeyes Brings New Orleans Flavors to Berks County

A new Popeyes restaurant has opened in South Heidelberg Township, Berks County, offering its signature New Orleans-style menu. Located at 4650 Penn Ave., the fast-food chain features a variety of chicken options, including the recently introduced "Golden BBQ" chicken sandwich, along with seafood and Southern sides. The 2,300-square-foot restaurant, equipped with a drive-thru, operates daily from 10 a.m. to midnight, joining several other regional Popeyes locations.
Eagles Edge Patriots 14-13: McKee Shines, Defense Steps Up

The Philadelphia Eagles secured a 14-13 preseason victory over the New England Patriots, advancing to 2-0. Key takeaways include solid performances from Tanner McKee, who led a touchdown drive and two-point conversion, and a strong defensive showing from Bryce Huff and Nolan Smith, despite some costly penalties. The Eagles rested their starters, focusing on evaluating backup players. Injuries to key players like Tyler Steen and John Ross were concerning, while young players like Nakobe Dean and Avonte Maddox made significant contributions.
Phillies Crush Nationals 13-3; Weston Wilson Hits for the Cycle

The Philadelphia Phillies dominated the Washington Nationals with a 13-3 victory on August 15, 2024. Key highlights include Alec Bohm and Nick Castellanos hitting back-to-back home runs in the first inning, and Weston Wilson making history by hitting for the cycle, marking the 10th cycle in Phillies history. Zack Wheeler delivered a strong pitching performance, allowing just three runs. Keibert Ruiz's two home runs were the bright spots for the Nationals, but they couldnโt overcome the Phillies' explosive offense.
