Man Jailed for Involvement in Pottstown Robbery and Shooting
Shamire Young, 22, from Philadelphia, has been sentenced to 3½ to 7 years in state prison for his involvement in the March 8, 2022, shooting of a Pottstown man during an attempted robbery on Manatawny Street. Young pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, while other charges were dropped as part of a plea deal.
The 35-year-old victim was shot multiple times and had his wallet stolen. A second suspect, Trent Maurice Trammell, 33, from Coatesville, is awaiting trial on related charges and is scheduled to appear in court on August 5. Investigators used license plate readers and cellphone data to link the suspects to the crime.
North Hanover Street Repaving Postponed for Lead Line Work
Roadwork on North Hanover Street is set to continue, possibly leaving it unpaved until 2025. PECO is currently replacing gas lines, and the Pottstown Borough plans to test for and replace lead water service lines, according to Public Works Director Doug Yerger.
North Hanover Street, a state road overseen by PennDOT, must be fully repaved once PECO completes its project. However, the borough’s lead pipe replacement initiative, part of a national effort to remove lead from drinking water, will delay the repaving. This project aims to replace 200 lead water laterals, a $2.8 million effort.
Lead exposure poses significant health risks, especially to children, causing neurological damage and other severe health issues. The borough will first conduct tests to identify lead lines, focusing on homes built before 1955. The extent of line replacements needed will be determined after initial investigations.
Coordinating the replacement of service lines, which is the homeowners' responsibility from curb to home, will add to the timeline. Both PECO and the borough will share the cost of the final repaving once all work is complete.

Austin Hays Joins Phillies in Key Trade with Orioles

The Philadelphia Phillies have traded reliever Seranthony Domínguez and outfielder Cristian Pache to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for outfielder Austin Hays. Announced on Friday morning, this move strengthens the Phillies' outfield ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.
Austin Hays, an All-Star in 2023, brings a .711 OPS this season and excels against left-handed pitchers, hitting .328/.394/.500. He will share outfield responsibilities with Brandon Marsh and Johan Rojas. Domínguez, after a standout rookie year in 2018, has struggled this season with a 4.75 ERA. Pache, known for his defensive skills, has seen a decline in his offensive performance.
With Domínguez's departure, the Phillies have a bullpen gap to fill and retain a strong pool of minor league prospects for future deals. This trade suggests the Phillies may pursue additional acquisitions to bolster their lineup.
