Union Secure Second Win of the Week with Gazdag’s Hat Trick

The Union reclaimed their form with a 3-0 win against Nashville, highlighted by Daniel Gazdag's hat trick.

Gazdag scored twice in the first half and added a third late despite Nashville's pressure. This win is the Union's second in four days, improving their record to 6-10-9 and temporarily placing them above the playoff line in ninth place. Their goal differential improved from minus-4 to plus-3, ranking sixth in the East.

Gazdag’s season tally now stands at 14 goals, matching last season's total. His hat trick is the 11th in the Union’s MLS history.

The first goal came from Leon Flach, who found Gazdag behind Nashville's defense. Joe Willis made several saves in the first half but couldn't stop Gazdag’s second goal in the 39th minute, assisted by Mikael Uhre. Gazdag completed his hat trick in the 89th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error by Brent Kallman.

Nashville showed promise in the second half but couldn't convert their chances. Andre Blake made crucial saves, including a stunning stop against Teal Bunbury in the 83rd minute.

Phillies Drop Third Straight, Lose 4-1 to Pittsburgh

The Philadelphia Phillies' struggles continued as they lost 4-1 to the Pittsburgh Pirates, extending their losing streak to three games.

Cristopher Sánchez (7-5) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits. Despite a solid start, the Phillies' offense couldn't back him up. Bryce Harper provided the lone highlight with his 22nd home run in the ninth inning off Pirates closer David Bednar.

Luis Ortiz (5-2) stymied the Phillies' bats, pitching seven shutout innings and allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out two. Andrew McCutchen hit a solo home run off Sánchez to start the scoring in the sixth inning. Nick Gonzales singled and later scored on Oneil Cruz's double.

Cruz struck again in the eighth inning with a two-run homer off Matt Strahm, extending the Pirates' lead to 4-0. Despite Johan Rojas's diving catch in the first inning to prevent a run, the Phillies' defense couldn't stop Pittsburgh's offense.
