Power Outages Persist in Chester County Following Fierce Storms
In East Fallowfield Township, Pennsylvania, thousands of PECO customers remain without power following a severe storm earlier this week. The storm, with winds over 55 mph and heavy rain, initially left 130,000 people without power on Tuesday night. As of now, about 20,000 in Chester County are still waiting for restoration.
PECO is dealing with extensive tree and infrastructure damage. Nearly 400 out-of-state workers have joined PECO crews to expedite repairs. Cleanup efforts are ongoing, with workers clearing debris from historical buildings in Coatesville.
PECO aims to restore power to most customers by Friday night, providing much-needed relief to those still in the dark.
Beacon of Hope Secures Site for 45-Bed Homeless Shelter in Pottstown

Pottstown Beacon of Hope has secured a 2.3-acre site at Glasgow and East High Streets for a 45-bed homeless shelter, finalizing the $270,000 purchase on July 2 after two years of legal issues.
The shelter, set to open in fall 2026, will offer medical care, counseling, and plans for permanent housing. One more winter of operating the warming center across five church locations is necessary, which requires a large volunteer pool and additional employees.
Despite the new shelter, Pottstown still faces a significant homeless crisis, with approximately 120 unhoused individuals and rising evictions. The project is funded by $1.3 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, but additional fundraising is needed due to rising costs.
