Pottstown's Historic Carousel Restored After 22-Year Effort

A historic 1905 carousel in Pottstown is back in operation after a two-decade restoration effort by a dedicated group of volunteers. The carousel, which is the second-oldest in the country, had been out of commission for many years before being rediscovered in a barn in Lancaster County and subsequently purchased for restoration.

State Representative Joe Ciresi praised the volunteers' efforts, describing the carousel as a "work of art" that is worth visiting even if not riding. BJ Peterman, Board President of the Carousel of Pottstown, emphasized the community's enthusiasm for the project and its role as a significant local attraction.

The restoration took 22 years of meticulous work by volunteers. Now fully operational, the carousel hosts a variety of events, including birthday parties, christenings, and weddings. Peterman highlighted the countless hours volunteers dedicated to restoring the carousel, transforming it into a centerpiece for community events.

Joe Bryant had an illustrious basketball career, playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, San Diego Clippers, and Houston Rockets. He also showcased his talent at Bartram High School in Philadelphia and La Salle University before continuing his career overseas.

Star Goalkeeper Andre Blake Back for Crucial Union Match

Andre Blake, the Philadelphia Union’s star goalkeeper, is set to return on Wednesday as the team faces New England, aiming to end a 10-game winless streak. Blake has had a challenging 2024 season, dealing with multiple injuries, including a concussion, adductor strain, and meniscus tear, limiting him to just four league starts.

Since Blake's last game on April 27, the Union (4-10-9, 21 points) have struggled significantly, falling to the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. Manager Jim Curtin confirmed Blake’s return, emphasizing the boost his presence will provide to the team. Despite the tough season, Blake remains determined and optimistic about his recovery.
