Philadelphia Grapples with
Last-Place Reality

The Philadelphia Union has officially become a last-place team in Major League Soccer (MLS) following recent results. They are tied for the fewest wins in the league and sit 28th out of 29 teams in the overall standings.
Manager Jim Curtin expresses frustration because the team's talent and performance don't match their poor results. The Union struggles to make winning plays, especially late in games, despite being competitive.
A recent 2-1 loss to Toronto FC exemplifies their issues. The Union conceded an own goal and then a late winner due to defensive errors. These mistakes turned a controlled situation into a loss, highlighting their fragility in crucial moments.
The team has a pattern of conceding late goals, with 11 allowed after the 76th minute compared to only 8 scored in the same period. They've scored the second-most away goals in the Eastern Conference but have also conceded the second-most, negating their offensive success.
Curtin believes the only solution is to find a way to win, regardless of how it happens. He acknowledges that the team's mental block is growing with each winless game, and they need to break this cycle to move forward.
The Union return to Subaru Park this coming Wednesday against New England.
