Trea Turner’s Grand Slam Powers Phillies to Big Win Over Dodgers

The Philadelphia Phillies delivered a commanding performance against the Los Angeles Dodgers, securing a 10-1 victory. The Phillies capitalized on Dodgers starter Bobby Miller's poor command, scoring nine runs off him through four innings. The game, which was manageable at 3-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, quickly escalated as the Phillies scored five runs in just ten pitches, extending the lead to 8-0. Key contributions came from Trea Turner, who hit a first-pitch grand slam, and Bryson Stott, who hit his first home run since May 18.
Zack Wheeler dominated early, allowing only two hits and striking out six through four innings. However, he struggled in the fifth, giving up a home run to Cavan Biggio and walking two before exiting the game with left low back tightness. The Phillies later announced Wheeler's condition, which may explain his sudden loss of command.
The Phillies' offense was relentless. They tallied nine runs on 10 hits and drew three walks against Miller, who now has an 8.07 ERA through 29 innings this season. Trea Turner's grand slam and Bryson Stott's home run were the highlights, with Turner hitting his sixth career grand slam and first since 2021.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Johan Rojas was hit on the wrist by a pitch but managed to stay in the game before being replaced by Cristian Pache in the eighth. Further updates on Wheeler and Rojas are expected when manager Rob Thomson addresses the media.
Game Highlights:
Zack Wheeler struck out Shohei Ohtani on three pitches in an exciting first-inning matchup.
The Phillies scored three runs in the second inning on a single by Rafael Marchan and a two-run single by Kyle Schwarber, who returned to the lineup.
Trea Turner hit a grand slam in the fourth inning, followed by Bryson Stott's home run three batters later.
Brandon Marsh added a solo home run in the sixth inning and recorded an outfield assist in the ninth.
Final Score: Phillies 10, Dodgers 1
Caleb Martin Takes Pay Cut for Championship Shot with Sixers

Caleb Martin has turned down a substantial offer from the Miami Heat to join the Philadelphia 76ers. The 28-year-old forward rejected a $65 million, five-year deal with Miami, opting instead for a four-year contract worth over $32 million with the 76ers. Martin sees this move as an opportunity for a fresh start and a chance to chase a championship alongside stars Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George.
Despite leaving millions on the table, Martin expressed no regrets about his decision. "Just certain things didn't work," Martin said at the Sixers' New Jersey complex. "There was a lot of things behind the scenes that went on. Ultimately, there was a lot in making that decision. There's a lot that contributed to how everything went. But past is past, can't do nothing about that. I'm looking forward to being here and being a part of Philly and trying to bring everything I can in order to try and win a championship. That's my main focus now."
Undrafted out of college after playing for North Carolina State and Nevada, Martin's path to the NBA was challenging. He played in the G League before making a name for himself with the Heat, particularly during the 2023 playoffs when he helped the team reach the NBA Finals. Martin averaged 19.3 points on 60% shooting in the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals, scoring a playoff-career-high 26 points in Game 7 against Boston.
Martin's move to the 76ers comes with a pay cut, but he remains focused on contributing to Philadelphia's championship aspirations. "I mean, you're always going to wish you can make as much money as you can," Martin said. "It's part of the game, it's part of life. You live and learn. You take risks. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't."
