76ers Strengthen Roster with Addition

of Forward Caleb Martin

The Philadelphia 76ers have signed free-agent forward Caleb Martin from the Miami Heat, continuing their efforts to strengthen the team around their star players Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George. The deal is set to be finalized once the league's moratorium on signings is lifted, though the terms are not yet disclosed.

Caleb Martin, 28, has spent five seasons in the NBA, with the last three at Miami where he gained a reputation for clutch performances. He averaged 10 points per game and shot 35% from three-point range with the Heat. Known for his breakout performance in the 2023 NBA playoffs, Martin averaged 19.3 points on 60% shooting during the Eastern Conference Finals, helping to push Miami to the NBA Finals.

In addition to Martin, the 76ers have made significant moves in the offseason, including signing Paul George to a $212 million, four-year contract and extending Tyrese Maxey's contract for five more years at $204 million. Other new additions include Andre Drummond, Eric Gordon, and the re-signing of Kelly Oubre Jr. The team aims to challenge top Eastern Conference teams like the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers, and Milwaukee Bucks.

Team President Daryl Morey highlighted the focus on maximizing the current talent, particularly Embiid and Maxey, with the intention to win now. Coach Nick Nurse's starting lineup is expected to feature Embiid, Maxey, George, Oubre, and Martin, with Drummond, Gordon, and first-round pick Jared McCain contributing off the bench.

Historic First: Union Players Selected for 2024 Olympic Soccer Team

Two Philadelphia Union soccer players, Jack McGlynn and Nate Harriel, have been selected to represent the United States in the 2024 Paris Olympics as part of the U.S. Men's Olympic Soccer Team. Both athletes progressed through the Union's training program and view this opportunity as a significant milestone in their careers.

Jack McGlynn expressed his excitement about the honor, describing the Olympics as the pinnacle of sports competitions. Nate Harriel echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the pride of representing both their club and country on such a prominent stage.

This selection marks a historic moment for the Philadelphia Union, as McGlynn and Harriel are the first players from the club to be chosen for the Olympics. The U.S. Men's Soccer Team will make its first Olympic appearance since 2008.

Before heading to France, McGlynn and Harriel were celebrated at a pre-game ceremony during the Union's rivalry match against the New York Red Bulls on July 6. The duo will then join the U.S. team in France, gearing up for their opening match against the host nation on July 24th.
