Pottstown's GIANT 4th of July celebration was a spectacular event filled with community spirit, gratitude, and festive activities.
The day kicked off with the annual Patriotic 5K, a well-attended event thanks to our partners, RUNegades. Runners of all ages joined in, creating a lively start to the celebrations.
Following the run was the vibrant 4th of July parade, organized by the Pottstown Rotary Club. The streets were lined with cheering spectators enjoying the colorful floats, marching bands, and local groups showcasing their patriotic pride.
The festivities continued downtown with the Pottstown GoFourth Festival, a fantastic event that brought the community together with music, food, and entertainment. Historic Wins at Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest: Sudo Breaks Record, Bertoletti Takes Title
The 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest concluded with Patrick Bertoletti from Chicago taking the men's title by devouring 58 hot dogs. This victory comes in the absence of the reigning champion, Joey Chestnut, who missed the event due to a contract dispute with Impossible Foods.
In the women's division, Miki Sudo of New York City set a new record by consuming 51 hot dogs, marking her 11th win. The annual contest, held at Coney Island, awards $10,000 to the competitor who eats the most hot dogs in ten minutes.
Joey Chestnut, the 16-time champion, was notably absent this year, having last won by eating 62 hot dogs. Instead, he participated in a separate event with U.S. troops at Fort Bliss, Texas. Chestnut holds the world record of 76 hot dogs, set in 2021.
Takeru Kobayashi, who dominated the contest from 2001 to 2006, famously ate 50 hot dogs in 2001 using the "Solomon Method." This method involves dipping half a hot dog in water while eating the other half. Kobayashi and Chestnut are set to renew their rivalry on September 2 in a Netflix-streamed eating contest.
Flyers Re-Sign Right Winger
Bobby Brink to Two-Year Contract

Bobby Brink, the Philadelphia Flyers' right winger, has signed a two-year contract extension worth $1.5 million annually. Brink, 22, aims to secure a regular spot in the lineup and gain coach John Tortorella's trust. Last season, he played 57 NHL games, scoring 11 goals and 12 assists, while also spending time with the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Brink faces competition from new arrivals and established players but is determined to prove his worth in the upcoming season.
Trea Turner's Power and Aaron Nola's 100th Win Lift Phillies Over Braves

The Philadelphia Phillies secured an 8-6 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Friday night, highlighted by Trea Turner's two home runs and Aaron Nola's 100th career win. This win extends the NL East-leading Phillies' lead over the second-place Braves to ten games.

Despite injuries sidelining key hitters Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and J.T. Realmuto, the Phillies amassed 15 hits. Turner's two-run homers off Max Fried were pivotal, the first in the fourth inning and the second in the sixth, the latter being the longest of his career at 459 feet.
Aaron Nola (10-4) started strong, retiring Atlanta's first 10 batters. He finished with eight strikeouts over six innings, allowing three runs. Max Fried (7-4) struggled, giving up five runs and a season-high 11 hits over six innings.
Austin Riley's two-run homer in the fourth and Ozzie Albies' three hits, including a solo shot, weren't enough for the Braves. Marcell Ozuna added a three-run homer in the eighth, but Atlanta's three errors and ineffective pitching sealed their fate.
Jeff Hoffman closed the game with a perfect ninth inning, earning his eighth save.
