Family, friends, and officials gathered at the Borough Council meeting on Wednesday to honor the life and legacy of James Rodgers, Pottstown’s first and only Black police chief. Rodgers, an Air Force veteran and Pottstown High School alumnus, served as the police chief from 1974 to 1991, following years of service as a sergeant and captain.
Johnny Corson, president of the Pottstown chapter of the NAACP, initiated the ceremony, praising Rodgers as a trailblazer during the civil rights era. Rodgers' tenure as chief saw significant advancements, including the establishment of the crisis intervention team, the crime prevention unit, and the police award program.
Mayor Stephanie Henrick read a proclamation recognizing Rodgers' extensive contributions. Post-retirement, Rodgers founded the Interfaith Community Development Corporation, aiming to assist lower-income families.

Rodgers’ family members shared heartfelt memories, highlighting his passion for motorcycles and his commitment to love and excellence. His contributions left a lasting impact on the community, cementing his legacy as a beloved and influential figure.

Philadelphia Union's Winless Streak Continues with Dramatic Loss to Chicago Fire
Philadelphia Union's struggles extended as they faced a heart-wrenching 4-3 defeat against the Chicago Fire at Soldier Field on Wednesday night. The match, filled with dramatic turns, saw Hugo Cuypers play a pivotal role, scoring two critical goals in the closing minutes, including a decisive one in stoppage time. Gastón Giménez also contributed significantly to the Fire's comeback, netting a late goal that turned the tide in their favor.
Despite the Union's efforts to stay competitive, being short-handed proved too much of a disadvantage. The team had managed to level the score multiple times, showing resilience and determination. However, the Fire's relentless offense and tactical plays ultimately secured their victory. This loss marks another setback for the Philadelphia Union, whose winless streak continues to raise concerns among fans and analysts alike. The team has dropped to the 14th seed out of 15 teams in the Eastern Conference. Their next match is Rivalry Night vs the New York Red Bulls to be played on Saturday, July 6th, where the team, staff, fans, and city are desperate for a win.
