Judge Cuts One Year Off
Philadelphia Man's Sentence in Pottstown Assault Case

Lady Justice background.

Richard W. Parker of Philadelphia had his prison term reduced from 4 to 3 years by a Montgomery County judge after re-evaluation of mitigating factors in his case. Parker was convicted of assaulting a man with a metal pipe in Pottstown. Despite his claim of self-defense, the jury found him guilty. The revised sentence acknowledges provocation by the victim, but Parker still deems the outcome unfair.

Trea Turner's Two Homers Propel
Phillies to Victory Over Cubs

Phillies

Trea Turner powered the Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night, hitting two home runs in a game where the Phillies managed to hold off a late surge by the Cubs.

The Phillies led comfortably 6-1 until the ninth inning, when José Ruiz allowed singles to Michael Busch and Cody Bellinger before Seiya Suzuki narrowed the gap with a three-run homer. However, Jeff Hoffman stepped up, striking out Ian Happ and Christopher Morel, and then getting Dansby Swanson to line out to right, securing his seventh save.

Michael Mercado, making his first major league start, pitched five innings, allowing two hits and one run, earning his first career win. Garrett Stubbs initiated the scoring with a two-run double in the second inning. Turner continued the offensive onslaught, hitting a solo homer in the third and a two-run homer in the fifth. He added an RBI single in the seventh inning.

Despite the absence of injured stars Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, the Phillies extended their winning streak while the Cubs have now lost seven of their last nine games.
