Brandon Marsh's Big Day Powers
Phillies to 6-2 Win Over Tigers

Phillies

In a strong performance, Brandon Marsh collected four hits and four RBIs, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, securing two wins out of the three-game series.

Marsh's big day included a single in the second inning, a two-run homer in the fourth, a two-run single in the fifth, and another base hit in the eighth. His offensive surge played a crucial role in the Phillies' win.

Phillies starter Spencer Turnbull, pitching against his former team for the first time, left the game after three innings due to right shoulder soreness, having allowed one run. Turnbull reported feeling a twinge in his shoulder on his penultimate pitch, prompting his early exit.

Jose Ruiz, the second of six relievers for Philadelphia, earned the win with a perfect fifth inning. The bullpen collectively allowed only one run and three hits over six innings. Manager Rob Thomson praised the bullpen's performance, noting their effectiveness throughout the game.

Detroit's Keider Montero, who entered in the fourth inning, struggled, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks. The Tigers have now lost eight of their last twelve games, often struggling to score more than two runs per game.

Nick Castellanos, another former Tiger, gave the Phillies an early lead with an RBI groundout in the first. Detroit's Matt Vierling briefly tied the game with a solo homer off Turnbull. Marsh's two-run homer in the fourth and his two-run single in the fifth provided the Phillies with a comfortable lead.

David Dahl added a sacrifice fly in the eighth, while Vierling doubled and scored for the Tigers in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Phillies' lead.

Next up, the Phillies will return home for a four-game series against the Miami Marlins, with Zack Wheeler set to start. The Tigers will travel to Los Angeles to face the Angels, with Jack Flaherty expected to pitch.

Sixers Select Duke's
Jared McCain in NBA Draft

76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers selected Duke guard Jared McCain with the 16th overall pick in the NBA Draft. McCain, known for his impressive shooting abilities, boasts a 40 percent success rate from beyond the arc and a 90 percent free-throw accuracy.

The Sixers chose McCain over other prospects such as USC's Isaiah Collier, Colorado's Tristan Da Silva, and Tennessee's Dalton Knecht. The draft saw several surprises, including Detroit's pick of G League guard Donovan Holland II and UConn’s Donovan Clingan falling to the Portland Trail Blazers at No. 7.
