PA Task Force Tackles Auto Theft Surge with Steering Wheel Lock Giveaway

The Pennsylvania Auto Theft Task Force is set to distribute free steering wheel locks to owners of Kia and Hyundai vehicles at an upcoming event in Berks County. On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Pennsylvania State Police regional auto theft task force will distribute steering wheel locks to Kia and Hyundai owners on a first-come, first-served basis at Classic Harley-Davidson on Route 183 in Bern Township.

This initiative is in response to the rising trend of thefts targeting these specific car models due to their easily bypassed ignition systems and lack of engine immobilizers, a vulnerability that gained attention through viral TikTok videos.

The event aims to provide a visual deterrent against theft, with the steering wheel locks being handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. These locks, often referred to as "clubs," make it more difficult for thieves to drive away with the vehicle. The task force has been working in collaboration with Hyundai and Kia, who have supplied the locks as part of a broader effort to combat the thefts.

Owners of the targeted vehicle models are encouraged to pick up their free lock at designated locations during the event. Additionally, Hyundai and Kia are offering software updates to enhance the security of their vehicles, but for many older models, the steering wheel lock remains a crucial preventive measure

Berks County Staple Fecera’s Furniture to Close After Nearly Eight Decades

After 78 years in business, Fecera’s Furniture, a family-owned retailer in Berks County, is closing its doors. The final liquidation sale starts on May 23 at their 65,000-square-foot store in Sinking Springs. Founded in 1946 by Arthur J. Fecera and his wife, Inez, the business expanded from a small Birdsboro storefront to multiple locations. After Arthur's passing in 1972, his son Artie, and later his wife Connie, continued the legacy. The closure marks the end of an era, with major discounts on various home furnishings and the building up for sale.
