Skies to Buzz with 70 Military Helicopters in Weekend Exercise (and Monday), Officials Say No Concern

Approximately 70 military helicopters from the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade will be visible flying through the airspace of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Lehigh Valley International Airports this weekend though Monday. This movement, involving helicopters like the AH-64 Apache, UH-60 Black Hawk, and CH-47 Chinook, is part of a scheduled deployment exercise to the U.S. Central Command area. The public has been informed that this is only an exercise, aiming to dispel any concerns.

Make a Difference: Participate in Hobart's Run Blood Drives at The Hill School and Ricketts Center

Hobart's Run is spearheading a vital initiative to support the community by hosting two blood donation opportunities, emphasizing the profound impact of giving blood to save lives. The first event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, under the collaborative effort of Pottstown CARES, Hill, and Pottstown High School students. It will be held at The Hill School's Ryan Library, specifically in the Memorial Room, from 2 to 7 PM.

The second chance to contribute will be on Friday, April 19, at the Ricketts Center located at 658 Beech Street, running from 12 PM to 5 PM. This noble cause is driven by the critical need for blood donations, urging the community to participate and make a difference.

"Nunsense A-Men!": A Hilarious Twist on Convent Life at Steel River Playhouse

The Steel River Playhouse, located at 245 E. High Street in Pottstown, is buzzing with excitement as it stages a unique rendition of the beloved musical comedy, "Nunsense A-Men!" This production offers a refreshing twist on the original, with an all-male cast stepping into the roles traditionally played by women. Picture "Mrs. Doubtfire" taking a whimsical dive into convent life – the result is a performance that defies expectations without straying into parody, acclaimed for its genuine humor and spirited delivery.

Originally performed in Brazil under the title "Novicas Rebeldes," the show made its New York debut in 1998, where it was met with critical acclaim and enthusiastic audiences. Notable performers such as Arte Johnson and Greg Louganis have graced the stage in past productions, each adding their own flair to the roles of the Little Sisters of Hoboken. The story's charm is amplified by the male actors' portrayal, bringing a new dimension of comedy to lines like “The guys in the old neighborhood still can't believe I became a nun!”

Dan Goggin's creation, enriched with his music and lyrics, finds its stage direction and choreography in the hands of Amanda Morrell, with John Williams directing the music. Morrell promises an uproarious experience, highlighting the nuns' zany efforts to raise funds for their deceased sisters' burials, which leads to a series of hilariously heartfelt moments.

"Nunsense A-Men!" promises a blend of laughter and light-heartedness, running from April 12th to the 28th. Special performances include a relaxed show on April 20th, tailored for audiences with sensory sensitivities, ensuring an inclusive theater experience. With ticket prices set for a wide audience and a special Bingo night fundraiser on April 18th, the event is gearing up to be a season highlight.

Pottsgrove Falcons Soar High with a Dominant 17-0 Victory Over
Pottstown Trojans

The Pottstown Trojans faced a challenging game against the Pottsgrove Falcons, ending in a significant 17-0 loss for Pottstown. This game, held on Friday, saw Pottstown struggling to find their footing, marking their second consecutive loss. The Falcons showcased their strength, particularly through Carter Burg's exceptional performance both as a pitcher and a hitter. Burg's pitching was flawless, not allowing any hits, runs, or walks in his inning on the mound. His prowess continued at bat, where he achieved an impressive 4-for-5, driving in five runs and scoring once himself.

Shane O’Hanlon also stood out for Pottsgrove, scoring three times and successfully stealing two bases in all three of his plate appearances. Brandon McGinley contributed significantly as well, with a run and three hits out of four at-bats. These performances have shifted Pottstown’s season record to 2-2 and improved Pottsgrove’s to 3-2.

Looking ahead, Pottstown is set to host Perkiomen Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday in hopes of regaining their momentum. On the other hand, Pottsgrove will take on Boyertown on the road at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, facing a team currently experiencing a three-game losing streak.
