Pottstown Students Win Robotics Competition, Advance to Nationals

Students from the Pottstown School District showcased their engineering and programming skills during a recent BotBall Competition held at Montgomery County Community College’s Pottstown Campus.
The event, sponsored by DANA-Pottstown’s African American Resource Group (AARG) in partnership with the college, challenged students to design and program autonomous robots capable of restoring a warehouse following a simulated disaster.
The Pottstown High School Engineering Team earned top honors at the high school level. The team, made up of freshmen and mentored by a senior engineering student, demonstrated strong technical ability and teamwork throughout the competition.
At the middle school level, Montco 360’s “Blues Clues” team claimed first place.
Both winning teams will now advance to represent DANA-Pottstown at a national competition in Maumee, Ohio, on April 14–15, where they will continue refining their designs and programming.
Organizers praised the students not only for their technical achievements, but also for their sportsmanship, resilience and teamwork throughout the competition.
Pottstown School District Proposes $96.5M Budget Plan Includes 3% Tax Hike

The Pottstown School District has introduced a proposed $96.5 million budget for the 2026–2027 school year, which includes a 3% increase in property taxes.
According to district officials, the budget outlines approximately $93.2 million in revenue compared to $96.5 million in projected expenses, resulting in a $3.3 million deficit. The shortfall is expected to be covered using the district’s fund balance.
School board members have raised concerns about the potential impact of the tax increase on residents, particularly as the district continues to face rising operational costs. District leaders have also emphasized ongoing efforts to secure fair funding at the state level.
The proposal is currently in its second review phase, and public input remains open ahead of a final vote on the budget.
Pottstown Parks and Recreation Named
State Agency of the Year

The Pottstown Parks and Recreation Department has been recognized at the state level, earning the 2026 Agency of the Year award from the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society (PRPS).

The award highlights the department’s commitment to enhancing the community through recreational programming, park maintenance and resident engagement. Officials say the recognition reflects the department’s ongoing efforts to provide accessible and high-quality services to residents throughout the borough.
The honor also underscores the importance of community investment in public spaces and programming, which continue to play a key role in improving quality of life in Pottstown.
Schuylkill River Sojourn to Celebrate
America’s 250th Anniversary
The Schuylkill River Sojourn will mark a major milestone in 2026, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States with special programming highlighting the river’s historical significance.
Organized by Schuylkill River Greenways in Pottstown, the annual event will take place from June 13 through June 19, covering a 112-mile guided journey from Schuylkill Haven to Boathouse Row in Philadelphia.
Participants will travel between 14 and 18 miles per day by kayak or canoe, accompanied by trained river guides. The experience includes meals, camping and gear transportation, making it accessible for a wide range of paddlers.
Pricing is set at $130 per day for adults and $75 for youth ages 16 and under, with full-trip rates of $775 for adults and $500 for youth.
Organizers say this year’s event will place a special emphasis on the Schuylkill River’s role in American history, offering a unique way to connect recreation with the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.
Registration is now open.
