Pottstown Community Bands Together for "Tent City" Cleanup Initiative

Bags of rubbish discarded on Putney Common. Residents’ use of the common during COVID lockdown increased hugely, with picnic of pizza and beer gaining popularity, resulting in piles of plastic bags of the resulting rubbish.

A volunteer cleanup initiative is set to address the accumulating waste issue at Pottstown's "Tent City," a homeless encampment plagued by overflowing trash. This community effort, spearheaded by The Deviators of Bethel Community Church, aims to enhance the neighborhood's aesthetic and hygiene.

Slated for March 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., near 35 College Drive, the event invites Pottstown residents to partake in the cleanup, with essential supplies like gloves and trash bags provided. Concurrently, groups such as Montco 30 Percent are devising a long-term waste management solution for the encampment, underscoring an urgent call for community support during this transitional period.

PennDOT offers advice on handling encounters with aggressive drivers, emphasizing safety and non-confrontation.
