New Integrated Accounting Degree at Penn State Berks Offers
Fast-Track to CPA
Penn State Berks launches a new integrated accounting degree program, enabling students to obtain both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in just five years at undergraduate tuition rates. This program, in collaboration with Penn State Great Valley, allows for up to 12 credits to count towards both degrees, with no need for GMAT or GRE scores. It offers graduate courses aligned with CPA and CMA exam requirements and includes access to Becker CPA Exam Review courses. Additionally, accounting majors are engaging in community service by providing free electronic tax filing in collaboration with local organizations, demonstrating a commitment to practical learning and community support.
Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy Charged with Child Pornography

James Christopher "Chris" Buckley, a 10-year veteran of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, has been charged with child pornography possession and distribution at his New Jersey vacation home. The charges stem from a 2020 CyberTip linked to Buckley's iCloud account. Despite previous commendations for heroism, Buckley's current detention and the potential for a significant prison sentence highlight the gravity of the accusations against him.
Verdict Reached: Two Men Convicted in Reading Double Murder Case
Two men, Jonathon Rodriguez and Emanuel Soto, were found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with a 2022 double homicide in Reading, PA. The jury's verdict addresses the killing of Taurice Green and Marques Sudler on Miltimore Street. While Rodriguez and Soto await sentencing, a third defendant, Darrian Kreitz, remains without a scheduled court date. This verdict marks a pivotal moment in the legal pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.
Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision in North Coventry Township Under Investigation
The North Coventry Township Police Department is currently investigating a tragic motor vehicle accident that resulted in a fatality. The collision, involving a black Chevrolet Aveo and a green Jeep Wrangler, occurred on the 1200 block of S. Hanover Street shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The initial reports led to a swift response from the police, who upon arrival, discovered the Chevrolet had collided head-on with the Jeep before coming to rest against a nearby tree.
While the drivers of both vehicles were fortunate to sustain non-life-threatening injuries and were promptly transported to Reading Hospital, a female passenger in the Chevrolet was not as lucky and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed as of yet.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward and contact the North Coventry Township Police Department at (610) 323-8360. This incident has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the community and the families involved, as they navigate through this difficult time.
Penn State Berks Dances Its Way
to Top 5, Raising Over $34K for
Pediatric Cancer Fight

The Berks Benefitting THON student organization at Penn State Berks raised an impressive $34,090.75 for THON 2024, earning the fifth spot among Penn State Commonwealth Campuses. The fundraising event, part of a 46-hour dance marathon benefiting Four Diamonds, supports families dealing with pediatric cancer. This year, THON broke its own record by raising a total of $16,955,683.46. The efforts of Penn State Berks students, including various fundraising activities and the participation of four dedicated dancers, significantly contributed to this achievement. THON's longstanding partnership with Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital has generated over $190 million in support of families and research for a cure for pediatric cancer.
