NHL Stars Hart, McLeod, and Dube Charged in Sexual Assault Case Linked to 2018 Junior Team Incident
Three NHL players, Carter Hart of the Philadelphia Flyers, Michael McLeod of the New Jersey Devils, and Dillon Dube of the Calgary Flames, are currently facing sexual assault charges. These charges stem from a 2018 investigation involving members of Canada's world junior team. Hart is accused of one count, while McLeod and Dube are also charged, all pleading not guilty.
Their legal representatives have voiced strong denials, emphasizing their clients' innocence and intention to respond to these allegations in court. This development follows the recent surrender of former NHL player Alex Formenton, who is also facing similar charges and maintains his innocence.
The Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils, and Calgary Flames have not issued immediate responses. Meanwhile, the London Police are preparing for a news conference to provide further details on the investigation.
This case traces back to an incident in 2018, where Hockey Canada settled a lawsuit with a woman claiming she was sexually assaulted by eight members of the gold medal-winning team. The NHL has launched an independent investigation into the matter, with Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly indicating that findings will be shared publicly when appropriate.
Hart, McLeod, Dube, Formenton, and Cal Foote of the Devils have all taken leaves from their respective teams. The NHL community awaits further developments as the legal process unfolds.
