DoorDash Tests New Alert to Encourage Tipping as Americans Cut Back
on Delivery Gratuity

In an effort to address the decline in tipping habits, DoorDash has introduced a new feature in their app that alerts customers who choose not to tip that their delivery may take longer. This comes as a response to a noticeable decrease in tipping, with a recent survey indicating that only 50% of Americans consistently tip their food delivery drivers, a drop from previous years. The in-app message informs customers that drivers, known as Dashers, may be less inclined to accept orders without tips, potentially leading to slower delivery times.

DoorDash's system allows drivers to see potential earnings before accepting a job, and they have the autonomy to reject offers they find less rewarding. The company has observed a reduction in the number of $0 tip orders since the implementation of this reminder. This strategy by DoorDash highlights the broader debate over tipping culture and the reliance on tips to supplement worker income, amidst a backdrop where many Americans express frustration with the pressures of tipping etiquette.

Boyertown Salvation Army Launches Annual Food Drive Amid Rising Demand

The Boyertown Salvation Army is conducting its annual food drive to support its various programs, including a food pantry and soup kitchen that have seen a significant increase in demand.

Currently assisting about 250 families and serving 1,000 individuals weekly, the organization has observed a steady rise in those needing aid since last year. Lieutenant Jared Starnes attributes the heightened need to the lingering impact of COVID-19 and economic inflation.

The food drive, strategically timed during the holiday season to capitalize on the public's charitable spirit, seeks donations of canned and dry goods, as well as turkeys and hams for holiday distributions. The Salvation Army relies on both local food bank supplies and public donations to sustain its services.

A man from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to a period of supervision as a sex offender after engaging in illegal online activities. Jason Paul Kemmerer, 36, received a sentence that includes time already served in jail and an additional 23 months, followed by five years of probation. He pleaded guilty to charges including unlawful contact with a minor and possession of child pornography after interacting with undercover agents who he believed were a young girl.

Kemmerer's sentence also involves a psychosexual evaluation, treatment compliance, electronic usage monitoring, and a ban on social media use. He is not allowed unsupervised contact with minors and must report his address to state police as part of Pennsylvania's Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act. The charges came after an investigation by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, where Kemmerer was caught attempting to meet with someone he thought was a minor. Additional evidence included inappropriate communications and possession of illegal images on his cellphone.
