Two Fatalities in Montgomery County Crash Following Deer Collision; Warning Issued for Fall Deer Activity
Two individuals lost their lives in a collision involving two pickup trucks in Montgomery County.
The accident took place early in the morning on Route 100 in Douglass Township. Francis Kiefer, 32, from Barto, was driving southbound when his black Nissan Frontier pickup collided with a deer. This caused Kiefer to veer into the northbound lanes, where he crashed head-on with another black Nissan Frontier driven by Raymond Hookway, 64, from Phoenixville.
Hookway was declared dead at the accident site, while Kiefer succumbed to his injuries en route to Pottstown Memorial Hospital.
Deer-related accidents are common, especially during the fall. Pennsylvania ranks alongside Illinois, North Carolina, and Oklahoma for high numbers of fatal animal collisions. The rise in deer population and expanding urban areas have increased the risk of such accidents, particularly during dawn and dusk.
Lower Pottsgrove Township Receives $20,000 Grant for Traffic Safety Enhancement at Key Intersection
State Rep. Joe Ciresi granted Lower Pottsgrove Township $20,000 for a traffic light preemption system at the Buchert Road and North Keim Street intersection. This system will give emergency vehicles priority, enhancing traffic safety and reducing response times.
The announcement was made during the township's board of commissioners meeting on Oct. 19. Township Commissioner Raymond Lopez emphasized the system's importance for quick and safe emergency responses.
