Serious Two-Car Accident in Colebrookdale Township

A major two-car collision occurred at North Grims Mill Road and West Philadelphia Avenue in Colebrookdale Township.

The accident, reported at 3:53 p.m., forced both vehicles off the road, causing vehicle fluids to spill into the adjacent Ironstone Creek.

Due to the severity of the crash, the Berks County coroner's office was summoned to the scene, and West Philadelphia Avenue was temporarily closed near the accident site.

Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority Renews Contract
with Transportation for America

The Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority has extended its contract with Transportation for America for another year. Since its appointment in August 2022, the consultant has played a pivotal role in the application to the Federal Railroad Administration's Corridor program. The authority is hopeful about securing additional funds through grant writing applications in the coming months.

The authority, established in 2022, primarily conducts virtual meetings due to its board comprising representatives from Berks, Chester, and Montgomery Counties. However, occasional in-person meetings are held in one of these counties, with the latest at Montgomery County Community College in Pottstown.

Dan Weand, president of Pottstown’s borough council, inquired about the expected timeline for ridership in Pottstown. Authority chairman Christian Y. Leinbach emphasized the importance of being accepted into the Federal Railroad Administration's Corridor Program, scheduled for a decision in November. If approved, the project could progress rapidly, but rejection might delay it by years. Funding remains a concern, with Leinbach estimating a 5-8 year timeline for passenger rail if the project is recognized as valuable.

The authority's primary objective is to reinstate passenger rail service between Reading and Philadelphia, representing a collaboration between Berks, Montgomery, and Chester Counties.

Diamondbacks Force Game 7 with
5-1 Win Over Phillies

In a surprising turn of events, the Arizona Diamondbacks are now one victory away from their first World Series since 2001. After a 5-1 win against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, the Diamondbacks have forced a Game 7 in the NL Championship Series.

Merrill Kelly, the Diamondbacks' pitcher, showcased a stellar performance, striking out eight before being pulled out after 90 pitches. Despite his evident frustration at the early exit, Arizona's bullpen maintained the momentum, allowing only three hits over four scoreless innings.

Philadelphia's top hitters, Schwarber, Turner, and Harper, struggled, going 0 for 9 with four strikeouts. The Phillies, who had been undefeated at home this postseason, faced their first home loss.

Tommy Pham and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. of the Diamondbacks hit consecutive home runs, contributing significantly to the win. Aaron Nola, the Phillies' pitcher, had a challenging night, allowing these home runs and facing a 3-0 lead by the Diamondbacks early in the game.

As the teams gear up for the next game, the winner will advance to the World Series against either Houston or Texas. Brandon Pfaadt will start for Arizona, and Ranger Suárez will take the mound for Philadelphia.

Eagles Acquire Philly-Born Safety
Kevin Byard in Trade

EAGLES

The Eagles have traded for Kevin Byard, a two-time All Pro and Pro Bowler, known for his versatility in the secondary.

In the current season, Byard has recorded 47 tackles and a fumble recovery. Last year, he had four interceptions and six pass breakups. At 30, Byard recently renegotiated his contract with the Titans, reducing his 2023 salary cap by $8.35 million.

Born in Philadelphia, Byard moved to Georgia during his teenage years and later played for Middle Tennessee State. He will now team up with Reed Blankenship, forming a strong safety duo for the Eagles.
