The manhunt for escaped murderer Danelo Souza Cavalcante continues near Philadelphia, where he recently stole a rifle from a residential garage and evaded gunfire from the homeowner. Cavalcante had previously escaped a search area in Chester County, stealing a dairy delivery truck and seeking help from former associates. Currently, about 500 law enforcement personnel are securing and searching an 8-10 square mile area in Chester County, with road closures and vehicle checkpoints in place.

Cavalcante, who escaped Chester County Prison while awaiting transfer for a life sentence, has been on the run for nearly two weeks. He had been convicted for the murder of his ex-girlfriend in 2021 and is also wanted in Brazil for another homicide case dating back to 2017.

The authorities are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to his capture, and have authorized the use of deadly force if he does not surrender willingly.

Meanwhile, schools in the area are taking precautions, with some closing and others keeping students indoors. The investigation into his escape and subsequent movements is ongoing, with officials emphasizing the challenges posed by the terrain and potential underground hiding spots.

The district is actively collaborating with the Pennsylvania State Police and Chester County Emergency Services, among other local law enforcement entities. They plan to keep staff and families updated on any new developments in the situation.

This program, which facilitates the provision of resources, funding, and coordination for DUI enforcement activities across 14 counties in Pennsylvania, is a collaborative effort involving municipal police forces. The initiative receives financial support from PennDOT and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, ensuring a safer environment on the roads of Berks County.

Reading City Council Addresses Safety Concerns at Pagoda and Rising Nuisance from Illegal Vehicles on City Streets

During a recent meeting, the Reading City Council discussed ongoing issues at the Pagoda and the nuisance caused by illegal dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles on city streets. Jose Miranda, representing the Foundation for the Reading Pagoda, emphasized the need to address safety concerns and deteriorating conditions at the Pagoda, urging for a collaborative approach to find a viable solution. He proposed closing the road to the Pagoda temporarily due to its current unsafe state. Council member Marcia Goodman-Hinnershitz stressed the importance of securing the Pagoda gates consistently to prevent unauthorized access.

Meanwhile, city resident James Bitler expressed frustration over the rampant illegal vehicle activity causing disturbances and posing safety risks in the city. He criticized the police department's perceived lack of action despite a significant portion of the city's budget being allocated to public safety. The council, which had previously discussed the vehicle issue in public meetings, also highlighted broader quality-of-life concerns in the city, especially following recent fatalities over the weekend. They urged the administration to focus on improving living conditions within the city.

Cannabis leaves

A 23-year-old man from Astoria, Queens, identified as Hassan T. Dager, was arrested in southern Berks County for allegedly trafficking drugs. State police found 246 pounds of suspected marijuana in his SUV during a traffic stop initiated due to heavily tinted windows and erratic driving.

Despite Dager's claims that he was transporting hemp, a substance that is legal in Pennsylvania, a K-9 unit detected the presence of marijuana in the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the THC content in the seized material exceeded the legal limit of 0.30%, confirming it as marijuana.

Matt Olson equaled the Braves' season home run record with his 51st homer, propelling Atlanta closer to securing the NL East title with a 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in a 10-inning match on Tuesday night.

Despite losing a 6-1 lead, the Braves clinched the win with Eddie Rosario's decisive RBI single in the 10th inning. Olson, who is on track to surpass Andruw Jones' 2005 record of 51 home runs, has been a significant contributor to the Braves' offensive prowess, with 11 homers in 18 career games at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies attempted a comeback with notable performances from Trea Turner and Bryce Harper, the latter achieving his 1,500th career hit. The Braves, who have won 95 games, the highest in MLB this season, are favorites to win the World Series. They could secure their sixth consecutive division title with a victory over the Phillies on Wednesday.
