French and Pickering Creek Conservation Trust Preserves Over 175 Acres in Chester County

The French and Pickering Creek Conservation Trust has successfully preserved over 175 acres in Chester County. Key properties include the former Alberta Baker Pew property, donated by Ray and Terry Bentley, which spans more than 138 acres and houses diverse habitats along the French Creek.
Another significant acquisition is a 37.6-acre farmland on Ellis Woods Road, owned by Dave and Gail Nesspor, which was prioritized for conservation due to its development potential. Since its establishment in 1967, the Trust has protected over 13,500 acres in northern Chester County, working in collaboration with various stakeholders.

Chester County Prison's Warden Resigns Amid Questions
Warden Ronald M. Phillips of Chester County Prison has resigned, and the reasons behind his departure remain unclear. The prison board has appointed former Downingtown Police Chief, Howard Holland, as the interim warden.
This change in leadership came shortly before a dangerous inmate escaped from the facility. Phillips, previously on administrative leave without a public statement, has been unreachable for comments.
Although Holland has extensive experience in law enforcement, he lacks a background in corrections. The prison, currently grappling with staffing issues, plans to reduce its vacancies over the next year. Industry experts stress the need for visionary leadership to address the prison's challenges.
Amity Township Lions Club Donates to Boone Area Library
The Amity Township Lions Club, established in 1949, has donated $1,000 to the Boone Area Library in Birdsboro. The club is known for its community fundraisers and initiatives, including lending medical equipment to those in need and collecting items for charity.
The Boone Area Library serves Birdsboro Borough, Amity Township, and Union Township and focuses on enriching community life through information and learning resources.
In March 2023, the Lions Club received awards for their community contributions and, in June, offered scholarships to Danial Boone High School students. The club ended the year with 41 members and holds monthly meetings for those interested in community service.

PHILLIES

Brewers Rally Past Phillies with 7-5 Win Following Bohm's Error
The Milwaukee Brewers capitalized on an error by Alec Bohm in the eighth inning, rallying to secure a 7-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday evening.
With this win, Milwaukee lengthened its NL Central lead to 3 1/2 games, distancing themselves from the Chicago Cubs, who went even in a doubleheader with the Cincinnati Reds.
Earlier in the day, Owen Miller was promoted from the minors and found himself at a crucial juncture, facing off against Jeff Hoffman with the bases loaded and Brewers trailing 5-4. In a tense 2-2 count situation, Miller grounded a ball that Bohm couldn't successfully backhand. This misstep resulted in three runners reaching home, with Tyrone Taylor deftly evading J.T. Realmuto's tag.
This dramatic turn in the game followed a four-run rally by the Phillies in the initial half of the eighth inning, driven by Trea Turner's three-run homer against Devin Williams. However, this lead was short-lived as the Brewers narrowed the margin when Taylor was walked with bases loaded by José Alvarado. Bohm's subsequent error off Miller's hit solidified the Brewers' advantage.
Williams (8-3) further fortified this lead, ensuring a tidy top of the ninth. Earlier in the game, Willy Adames had contributed a three-run homer, marking his 22nd of the season.
Brewers' starting pitcher, Freddy Peralta, showcased a commendable performance. Apart from yielding a homer to Kyle Schwarber at the onset, he retired 18 out of the 19 subsequent batters, marking a total of 10 strikeouts. Peralta's recent seven starts highlight an impressive record, with 69 strikeouts and a mere eight runs over 42 innings.
On the Phillies' side, Zack Wheeler demonstrated a strong presence, recording 10 strikeouts, no walks, and conceding five hits and three runs in a six-inning stretch.

Interboro Dominates Pottstown with Stellar Running and Linemen Performance
Tommy Receveur made a mark in the first half, while Anthony Barr dominated in the second. Aaron Keene's contributions in the red zone were noteworthy, and even freshman fullback, JJ Clark, showcased his talent in the final quarter.
When multiple Interboro running backs perform at such a level, credit often goes to the line, which was the case in Thursday's game. Interboro's ground game recorded 256 yards, with an additional four turnovers, resulting in a 21-12 victory against Pottstown in a nonleague match at the South Avenue Athletic Complex. The linemen's commendable effort enabled the Bucs to maintain a lead for most of the game, achieving a total of 361 yards.
Receveur was particularly significant in the first half, contributing 10 carries for 80 yards. His efforts set the stage for Keene's two short touchdown runs in the second quarter. After an injury sidelined Receveur in the second half, Barr took the reins. He caught two key passes totaling 83 yards and played a vital role in setting up Keene’s first touchdown. Later in the third quarter, Barr further increased Interboro's lead with a three-yard touchdown.
The touchdown became a testament to Interboro's offensive strength, pushing the Trojans deep into their end zone.
Momentum plays a huge role in football, and on this day, Interboro seemed to have the upper hand. Their offensive line, known in the past for its agility, now boasts considerable size. Players like Welsh and Drew Frescoln, along with Nolan Royer, Kyle Cramphorn, and center Greg Ferrari, consistently overpowered their counterparts from Pottstown throughout the match.
Despite reaching Pottstown's 35-yard line multiple times, Interboro faced challenges like turnovers and interceptions. Still, they managed to hold a significant lead. For Pottstown, DiMark Lyons made a memorable 72-yard run in the third quarter, reflecting his skills and agility.
However, the Trojans struggled with their share of errors, including fumbles, interceptions, and a high number of penalties. Lyons believed that while the team performed well, reducing penalties could further elevate their performance.
After a challenging match against Strath Haven the previous week, Welsh saw potential in Thursday's game against a smaller Pottstown team. The experience emphasized the importance of facing strong opponents early on to understand and improve upon their capabilities.
