Local Star JoJo Lacey Hosts Basketball Skills Camp for Young Girls at Pottstown High School

Douglassville PA native JoJo Lacey returned to her roots to host a basketball skills camp for young girls at Pottstown High School. Lacey, who had an impressive season at Boston College, started in all 33 games, averaged 10 points per game, and led her team with 51 three-point field goals.

The “Learning Skills for Life" camp" consisted of two sessions where girls aged 9 to 18 not only learned about basketball but also received information about health, wellness, college, and careers.

Lacey has a personal connection to Pottstown, as her mother attended school there and her father is from the area. Recognizing the lack of opportunities for women's sports, especially basketball, in the area where she grew up, Lacey wanted to provide local girls with a chance to train and pursue their basketball dreams.

PHILLIES

Abrams' Three-Run Homer Helps Nationals Edge Phillies 8-7, Spoiling Lorenzen's Follow-Up to No-Hitter

CJ Abrams' three-run homer in the fourth inning helped the Washington Nationals overcome the Philadelphia Phillies 8-7 on Friday night, putting a damper on Michael Lorenzen's first start since his no-hitter just nine days prior.

Jake Alu also contributed with two RBIs for the Nationals, who have seen a surge in their performance, winning 11 out of the last 15 games and 15 out of 18 home games since July 8.

Kyle Schwarber hit two home runs for the Phillies, who, despite leading by two games in the NL’s top wild-card spot, have now lost four of their last five games.

After no-hitting the Nationals on Aug. 9, Lorenzen (7-8) struggled in his latest start. His shot at consecutive no-hitters ended quickly with Lane Thomas' infield single in the first. His real troubles started in the fourth inning. After an error by Johan Rojas, Lorenzen allowed five consecutive batters to reach base, culminating in Abrams' three-run homer that marked the end of Lorenzen's outing. He left the game having given up seven runs, six earned, and eight hits over 3 1/3 innings.

The Nationals added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single from Thomas.

Jose A. Ferrer (3-0) worked the fifth inning for the Nationals, one of seven pitchers Washington used in the game. Kyle Finnegan gave up a leadoff homer to Schwarber in the ninth but managed to secure his 20th save by retiring the next three batters.

Bryce Harper, formerly of the Nationals, was consistently booed during his plate appearances, a tradition since he joined the Phillies in 2019. Harper went 2 for 5 and initiated a six-run rally in the fourth with a leadoff double against Nationals starter Joan Adon. J.T. Realmuto's two-run double, Jake Cave’s RBI double, and Rojas' RBI single followed, with Schwarber capping the rally with a fly ball into the right-field seats, making the score 6-1.

Adon gave up six runs over four innings.

Union Berlin Looks to US Midfielder Brenden Aaronson for Leadership in Debut Champions League Season

Union Berlin is turning to U.S. midfielder Brenden Aaronson for experience as they begin their inaugural Champions League season.

The 22-year-old, on loan from relegated Leeds, previously helped Salzburg reach the Champions League knockout stages. Aaronson is prepared to take on a leadership role, drawing from his time as an underdog with Salzburg.

Union, promoted to the Bundesliga in 2019, has seen surprising success and is bolstering their squad with new signings, including Germany's Robin Gosens. Aaronson has already demonstrated his playmaking abilities in the preseason, and Union's attack will be further strengthened with the arrival of Kevin Volland. Union sporting director Oliver Ruhnert has advised Aaronson to work on his strength to handle the Bundesliga's physicality.

Aaronson may face his brother Paxten in a Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt. Union's Champions League group stage opponents will be announced on August 31.
