PagodaFest to Celebrate Reading's 275th Anniversary with Outdoor Festival at Iconic Landmark
PagodaFest, a festival celebrating Reading's 275th anniversary, will take place this summer at the Pagoda in Reading, Pennsylvania.
The event will feature local bands, food trucks, kids' activities, and vendors in the landmark's parking lot. The festival was organized after ruling out events within the 116-year-old Pagoda itself, which is currently closed for restoration.
The festival will coincide with the Reading Gravity Racing League's race on Skyline Drive, providing an opportunity to enjoy both landmarks and the mountain without vehicle traffic.
Shuttles will run from City Park to the Pagoda throughout the day. Councilwoman Marcia Goodman-Hinnershitz expressed her support for the growing number of events taking place at and near the Pagoda but also raised concerns about the long-term sustainability of the mountain's natural resources and misuse of the Skyline Drive area.
Efforts to control noise and illegal activity in the area have been made, including strengthening noise laws and increasing security, but further measures such as potentially closing Skyline Drive during nighttime hours are being considered to address ongoing challenges.

Disney World in Orlando Faces Lower Attendance Amid Rising Costs and Political Issues

Disney World in Orlando, Florida, has been experiencing lower attendance than usual due to a combination of factors, such as rising consumer costs and political issues.
The slowdown in park attendance has prompted CEO Bob Iger to roll back some of the price increases in an effort to attract more visitors.
What gives?
Travel is up for Americans, but they’re choosing cruises and Europe over Orlando.
Ticket prices have gone way up over the past several years, with the company monetizing every aspect of visiting the park.
That’s made it increasingly difficult for families to afford a vacation there (which would make Walt Disney roll in his grave).
Despite the decline in attendance, Disney's parks, experiences, and products division still saw a 17% increase in earnings last quarter, driven by increased foot traffic at other Disney resorts around the world. However, Disneyland in California continues to draw in crowds consistently.

PHILLIES

Philadelphia Phillies' 2024 MLB Schedule Revealed, Including London Series Clash
The much-anticipated schedules for the upcoming 2024 MLB season have been unveiled by the league and its teams, with the caveat that changes may occur before the official commencement of the new season.
The Philadelphia Phillies will kick off their 2024 campaign at home, facing off against their NL East rivals, the Atlanta Braves, on March 28th.
One notable highlight on the Phillies' schedule is their participation in the MLB's London Series in June. On June 8th and 9th, the Phillies will cross the pond to play against their arch-rivals, the New York Mets.
Fans will have to wait until May 13th for the first series between the Phillies and the Mets in the new season.
Exciting matchups pepper the Phillies' schedule throughout the season. In July, they will host the renowned New York Yankees, followed by a showdown with the Houston Astros in August. May promises a string of marquee games at Citizens Bank Park, with visits from the San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers, and the Mets.
The season will culminate with a three-game series against the Washington Nationals from September 27th to 29th.
FLYERS

Philadelphia Flyers Sign Olle Lycksell to a Two-Year Contract
The Philadelphia Flyers have finalized a two-year contract worth $1.575 million with forward Olle Lycksell, leaving only center Morgan Frost as the team's remaining restricted free agent.
Lycksell, 23 years old, was selected by the Flyers in the sixth round of the 2017 NHL draft. He made his NHL debut last season, playing eight games and recording his first career point against the Edmonton Oilers on February 21. While primarily playing for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL), Lycksell emerged as the team's second-highest scorer.
The signing of Lycksell follows recent contract agreements with RFAs Cam York and Noah Cates, with the Flyers successfully avoiding arbitration with Cates. Defenseman Ronnie Attard also signed a two-year contract with the team last week.
Frost, a first-round pick in 2017, remains the lone restricted free agent for the Flyers awaiting a contract signing.
