PHILLIES

Phils Lose
Kyle Finnegan's impressive performance in escaping late-inning jams helped the Washington Nationals secure a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Finnegan induced crucial double plays in both the seventh and eighth innings, preventing the Phillies from mounting a comeback.
Stone Garrett hit a grand slam and Jeimer Candelario added a solo home run to contribute to the Nationals' win.
The victory marked the Nationals' second win in a three-game series against the defending National League champions and concluded a successful road trip where they won six out of nine games.
The loss was a setback for the Phillies in their playoff pursuit. Despite a strong offensive performance from Nick Castellanos and J.T. Realmuto, the Phillies failed to capitalize on key opportunities and struggled to get clutch hits with runners in scoring position. Hunter Harvey closed the game with his eighth save, securing the Nationals' third consecutive series win.
FLYERS

Flyers Add Depth with Signings of Ryan Poehling and Garnet Hathaway on Opening Day of Free Agency
16 years after signing Danny Briere to a lucrative contract, the Philadelphia Flyers are taking a more frugal approach to free agency. Briere, now in a management role, expressed satisfaction with the league's push for financial restraint in free agency.
Despite the Flyers' rebuilding efforts, they are still looking to improve their team. They recently signed Ryan Poehling to a one-year contract worth $1.4 million.
Poehling, a former first-round draft pick, brings versatility and youth to the team. Additionally, the Flyers signed Garnet Hathaway, a veteran winger known for his toughness. The team's management aims to address previous shortcomings by adding physicality and experience to the lineup.
Although Poehling has faced injury setbacks, the Flyers see potential in him and are willing to take a chance on his abilities.
Daniel Boone Grad, Chris Guiliano, Shines at U.S. Swimming Championships, Secures World Championships Spot
Chris Guiliano, a rising junior at Notre Dame and a graduate of Daniel Boone, achieved a notable performance at the U.S. swimming championships in Indianapolis. He secured a seventh-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle event, surpassing expectations.
Guiliano had previously qualified for the upcoming world championships with his second-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle earlier in the week. In the 50 free, he initially entered as the 22nd seed with a time of 22.44, but he swam a personal best of 22.08 in the preliminaries, ranking him sixth and securing a spot in the finals. Ultimately, Guiliano further improved his personal best to 21.96 in the final, where Ryan Held emerged as the winner with a time of 21.50.
Guiliano's remarkable performance in the 100-meter freestyle earned him a place at the world championships in that event and as part of the United States' 4x100 relay team. Despite being initially seeded 22nd with a time of 49.17, he achieved a personal-best time of 47.98 in the final, narrowly missing out on victory as he was touched out by Jack Alexy, who finished in 47.93.
In addition to his performances in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle events, Guiliano also competed in the 200-meter freestyle. However, he finished 30th in the preliminary rounds with a time of 1:49.64 and did not advance. He was initially seeded 39th in this event.
The world championships will take place in Fukuoka, Japan, from July 14 to 30. Guiliano has already secured a spot at the next year's U.S. Olympic Trials.
Union

Union fall to Atlanta
Atlanta United secured a 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union in an MLS match. Thiago Almada, who leads the league in assists, scored his eighth goal of the season and provided his 10th assist to contribute to Atlanta's win. Brooks Lennon also scored for Atlanta.
Despite an early injury to Giorgos Giakoumakis, Atlanta's leading goal scorer, they managed to control the game and limit Philadelphia's attacking threat.
The Union, who had been on a scoring streak, were unable to find the back of the net in this match. The victory marks Atlanta's second win in eight matches, while Philadelphia remains winless in their last three away games.
USMNT Crush Trinidad & Tobago 6-0

The United States defeated Trinidad and Tobago 6-0 in their final Group A match at the Gold Cup, securing top spot in the group.
Jesus Ferreira continued his impressive form with a first-half hat trick, becoming the first player in US soccer history to score three goals in back-to-back games at the Gold Cup.
Ferreira's total tally in the tournament rose to six goals, making him the leading goal scorer. Substitute Cade Cowell scored his first senior goal, while Gianluca Busio and Brandon Vazquez also found the net to complete the rout.
The victory ensured the United States topped their group for the 16th time in 17 Gold Cups. They will face the second-place finisher from Group D in the quarterfinals.

Late Goal by Toufik Najem Seals Victory for Reading United AC in Thrilling USL League Two Match
Reading United AC secured a thrilling victory over Philadelphia Lone Star FC in a USL League Two match at Alvernia University.
Midfielder Toufik Najem scored the winning goal in stoppage time, assisted by Ryan Kuster. The game saw a series of ups and downs for Reading, with goals from Sam Hershey and Shuma Sasaki giving them a 2-1 lead before Lone Star equalized in the 88th minute through an own goal.
Despite the setback, Reading showed composure and fought hard to secure their fourth win of the season. Najem, who missed the previous season due to injury, expressed his happiness in contributing to the team's success.
Reading coach Casey Moore praised Najem's perseverance and work ethic. The victory comes as a boost for Reading, as they aim to keep their playoff hopes alive in the remaining two games of the regular season.
