Pottstown Man Sentenced to Jail for Drug and Firearms Offenses
Elijah Davis, of Pottstown, was sentenced to serve between 6 and 15 years

Elijah Davis, a 22-year-old resident of Pottstown, was sentenced to serve between 6 and 15 years in state prison by Montgomery County Court for drug and weapons charges stemming from incidents in October 2021.
Davis had previously seen homicide charges against him dismissed by the same judge, William R. Carpenter, in August 2021. The sentence was part of an agreement between Assistant District Attorney Gabrielle Hughes and Davis's defense lawyer, Abraham A. Hobson III.
Davis pleaded guilty to multiple charges including possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, conspiracy to deliver controlled substances, carrying firearms without a license, and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. The Assistant District Attorney emphasized the threat posed by drug trafficking and carrying untraceable firearms to the community, arguing for a substantial state sentence.
The charges were based on evidence gathered through four controlled purchases of heroin/fentanyl from Davis and subsequent search warrants executed on his residence and vehicle. During the searches, detectives seized around 28 grams of fentanyl, drug packaging materials, four digital scales, $7,607 in cash, and two firearms, one of which had an obliterated serial number. Davis was found to lack a permit for the concealed weapon.
Davis's offenses were committed less than three months after his release from jail following the dismissal of homicide charges. Davis had been implicated in the 2019 murder of Keith "Nas" Robinson but was released after the judge determined that there was insufficient evidence to proceed to trial on the homicide charges.
Despite Davis's acquittal, three other men, Jaquan Marquis "Swizz" Lee, Derrick Goins, and Kyshan Scott Brinkley, alleged members of a gang known as "Bud Gang Bitch" or BGB, were convicted of first-degree murder in January 2022 and received mandatory life sentences for their participation in Robinson's murder.

Mayor of Royersford Resigns to Return to South Korea
Jenna Antoniewicz announces her resignation
Jenna Antoniewicz, the mayor of Royersford, Pennsylvania, has announced her resignation to move with her family to South Korea.
Antoniewicz, who was adopted from South Korea by Caucasian American parents when she was a year old, had never given much thought to her Asian roots while growing up in a predominantly white area.
However, during the height of the conversation on Asian American Pacific Islander hate in 2021, she felt compelled to learn more about her heritage and immerse herself in Korean culture.
Through a trip sponsored by a company catering to South Korean adoptees, she found her birth father and discovered the complexities of her own story. This led to her decision to resign as mayor and relocate her family to South Korea, where her husband was offered a job at a sister school of Branksome Hall, an international school in Toronto.
The move will provide an opportunity for Antoniewicz and her children to learn more about their cultural heritage and family. Her last day as mayor will be on June 13, 2023.

Amazon Agrees to Pay $30 Million Settlement Over Privacy Violations Involving Ring Cameras and Alexa Devices
Amazon has agreed to two settlements with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), totaling over $30 million, for privacy violations related to its Ring doorbell cameras and Alexa voice assistant devices.
The company will pay $5.8 million due to its failure to protect video footage from customers' Ring cameras, and $25 million for privacy law violations by Alexa devices.
The FTC asserted that Ring allowed employees unfettered access to sensitive video data from customers and did not sufficiently secure its systems against hackers. In one case, a Ring employee was found to have viewed thousands of video recordings from about 80 female users over several months in 2017.
The FTC also accused Ring of prioritizing growth over security, making its products susceptible to hackers.
The larger $25 million settlement concerning Alexa stems from violations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which forbids the collection of personal data from children under 13 without parental consent. The FTC alleged that Amazon stored children's voice recordings indefinitely, occasionally failing to honor deletion requests.
As part of the settlement, Amazon must delete recordings and geolocation data based on past consumer requests, including those from children. The company will also notify consumers about the FTC settlement and cease training its algorithm based on data collected through these practices.

Philadelphia Union Sign Midfielder Jose Martinez To New Contract

Philadelphia Union made an official announcement on Thursday regarding midfielder Jose Martinez's contract extension. The Venezuelan international has agreed to a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2025, with an option for 2026. Martinez initially joined the Union in 2020 and quickly won over the fans with a remarkable debut performance against LAFC.
Ernst Tanner, the Sporting Director of the Philadelphia Union, expressed his satisfaction with the contract extension, emphasizing Martinez's consistent contributions to the team's success over the past few seasons. Tanner praised Martinez's midfield dominance and recognized his crucial role in the team's attacking transitions. The Union is delighted to secure an agreement that extends Martinez's tenure in Philadelphia.
Since joining the club in 2020, Martinez, now 28 years old, has made 78 regular season appearances, starting in 75 of them. During this time, he has recorded 10 assists, including a significant one in the team's 2-0 victory against New England in the final game of the 2020 regular season, which secured the Supporters' Shield. Martinez's defensive prowess played a vital role in the Union's achievement of setting a new MLS record for the fewest goals conceded in a single season in 2022. Moreover, he was instrumental in guiding the Union to their first-ever MLS Cup final appearance in the club's history.
In the current season, Martinez boasts an impressive 52.9% duel success rate, placing him third on the team with 104 duels. Since the start of the 2022 season, he has consistently had the highest number of recoveries per game among all midfielders in the league, averaging 9.6 per game. This places him above all other MLS midfielders who have played at least 900 minutes.
On the international stage, Martinez has represented the Venezuelan National Team on 22 occasions, contributing three assists. He made his national team debut as a substitute in a World Cup qualification match against Bolivia on June 3, 2021.
The transaction between the Philadelphia Union and Jose Martinez was officially completed on June 1, 2023, as the midfielder signed a new contract that extends until 2025, with an option for the following year.
The Union will be on the pitch Saturday evening at 7:30 vs CF Montréal
