Pottstown Rotary Club Beautifies Riverfront Park and Backs Community Initiatives

The Pottstown Rotary Club has been very active in community work.
Their recent meeting was held at Riverfront Park, where they along with the Veteran’s Island group and Pottstown Community Arts gathered to do gardening work. They also supported local youth art, prominently hanging hubcaps crafted by children from the Pottstown Regional Public Library and the Ricketts Center’s after-school program.
In a bid to support local initiatives, the club donated $1,775 to the Pottstown Athletic Club to support its Resurgence Program, which is housed in the old Armory building on King Street.
The Rotary Club also donated $5,000 towards the development and maintenance of a memorial for Pottstown's veterans on Veteran's Island, which was funded through the proceeds of the Club's "Big Ticket" fundraising event.

Parents in Bucks County Arrested as 7 Children Discovered Living in 'Deplorable Conditions'
Kids malnourished, never attended school and did not know their own birthdays.

A couple in West Rockhill Township, Pennsylvania, has been arrested and charged with felony child endangerment after their seven children were found living in deplorable conditions.
Shane William Robertson, 47, and Crystal Robertson, 37, face seven counts each of endangering the welfare of children.
The children, aged 4 to 16, were discovered malnourished and in need of medical care. They had never attended school and did not know their own birthdays.
Police responded to a report of three children entering an abandoned trailer and found the family's home nearby. The living conditions were described as unsanitary and unsafe, with a padlock on the refrigerator due to limited finances.
Four additional children were found hidden in a rear bedroom. All seven children were taken into protective custody and received medical treatment. They were underweight and malnourished, with some needing dental and eye care.
The Robertsons were released on $10,000 bail after posting bond.

PHILLIES

Phils get the W!
Wheeler strikes out 12 as Philadelphia Phillies top Atlanta Braves
Phils 2 - Braves 1
In a thrilling matchup on Saturday, the Philadelphia Phillies emerged victorious with a narrow 2-1 win over the Atlanta Braves, thanks to an exceptional performance by Zack Wheeler. The right-handed pitcher dominated the game, striking out an impressive 12 batters while keeping the Braves off the scoreboard for eight innings.
Wheeler, who had been struggling to secure a win since April 29, finally found his rhythm on the mound. He allowed just three hits, issued a solitary walk, and hit a batter. In May, he had endured a tough stretch, going winless in four starts with a 4.44 ERA. However, he put all doubts to rest with a stellar display in this game, earning a well-deserved victory.
The Phillies took control of the game in the fifth inning against Braves' pitcher Charlie Morton. Bryson Stott played a crucial role, driving in Brandon Marsh with a sacrifice fly to put Philadelphia ahead. The momentum continued as Trea Turner followed it up with a run-scoring double, extending the Phillies' lead.
Morton, though performing admirably with nine strikeouts, couldn't prevent the two pivotal runs from scoring. He allowed seven hits and walked four during his 5 1/3 innings on the mound.
The Braves' Sean Murphy provided a glimmer of hope for his team in the ninth inning when he homered against Philadelphia's closer, Craig Kimbrel. However, Kimbrel showcased his composure by striking out Marcell Ozuna and Eddie Rosario, securing his seventh save of the season and reaching an impressive milestone of 401 saves in his career.

Murphy was the standout performer for the Braves, registering two of their four hits. Unfortunately, the team struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, going 0 for 4 with runners in scoring position.
On the Phillies' side, Turner, who has faced challenges in his debut season with Philadelphia, had a solid outing with two hits and a stolen base. Kody Clemens contributed to the team's offensive efforts with two hits and a run scored. However, Philadelphia struggled to convert their opportunities, going 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position and leaving 12 runners stranded on base.
Alec Bohm of the Phillies showcased his defensive prowess with an outstanding play in the third inning. As a runner stood on second base, Bohm made a diving stop to field a grounder from Ozuna, and from his knees, threw him out at first base. Wheeler then induced a pop-out from Rosario, ending the inning on a high note.

Looking ahead, the Braves' Spencer Strider, who boasts a 4-2 record and a 2.97 ERA, will take the mound against the Phillies' Dylan Covey, who is yet to secure a win this season with a 0-0 record and a 3.00 ERA. The matchup between these two right-handed pitchers will determine the outcome of the final game in the four-game series on Sunday.
